The drain tube "check" which most OPCs carry out consists of pouring water rapidly into the channel each side of the pano roof, The volume of water is greater than the drain tubes are designed to cope with. Water overflows the edges of pano roof cassette and is then seen dripping in the rear quarter areas. This is their "proof" that the drains are blocked. They're not. When the roof is closed, the perimeter seals of the glass panel are pretty good, and very little water will get through - not enough to overwhelm the drain tubes normally. The drain tube design, with rubber valves at the lower end, is flawed and is prone to blockages. This is now seen by OPCs as an easy way to charge £250-300 to "unblock" the drain tubes at every service. What a dreadful situation, especially when we bought the cars expecting better than average service support.

There should be drainage ducts under the front scuttle on non-pano Macans - these are present on pretty much all cars. I've had to clean them out on a number fo cars including my wife's current Audi TT. MAy be these that the dealer is referring to.

^^^ when my Macan had its first service at 2yrs old Swindon tried to charge me for the "check". They dropped the charge and cut the ends of the tubes (squeeze valves?) foc.

I had problems with blocked pano drains in my previous Gen 1 Macan, but fortunately all fixed by Solihull under warranty, question is have these drains been modified in Gen 3 or could it still be a problem ?

I would suspect no changes. the Macan's underlying body structure has not changed with the generations. the changes have been to mechanicals, suspension, interior trim including electronics and body external trimming.

i am not aware of any non pano roof Macan's having issues with front skuttle drains. I am also not aware of garages of other brands trying to use drain cleaning as a source of income. If needed it is not a task that needs the skill and cost of a fully trained Porsche mechanic. in such circumstances garages should employ someone with a lower skill level for the simpler tasks and charge then out at a suitable rate.
