Stone caught in disk

Twice now, a stone has got caught up in the rear near side disk.

The first time it was a high pitched squeal. I stopped about 30yards later and reversed and it cleared.

The second time was last night going home and it sounded like someone had dropped a scaffolding pole at the rear of the car... then another and another - the penny dropped and I knew it was another stone. Again, stopped and reversed and it cleared.

Both at slow speeds about 25mph.

It must be getting caught between the disk and the metal backing plate.

The thing is - I have never had this in any other car and if my wife was driving it she would drive around until she got home! Ouch

I will possibly need to pull the backing plate closer to the disk to stop stones getting in. Anyone else had this problem?

My wheels are the 21" Sport Classics and I wonder if that is leaving lots of space for stones to get in?Shocked

Daft question I appreciate - have you called your OPC to see if this has been reported earlier? They may not only keep local reports but also nationwide with it being a new model just for customer reliability? Good luck

Never thought - I look at it like it's just bad luck or a bit like getting a stone chip on your windscreen but I thought I would see if anyone else had the same problem here. I would feel a bit daft going into the dealer and making it look like I was complaining about a stone getting stuck but you are right, it may be a problem or a design fault. Confused

Daveoffshore is right it may be that a modified brake disc shield is required ..

My macan has been in twice for brake squeal which they investigated the front calipers but perhaps it was the rear.

My van has 20"wheels and has rear disc brakes and has never had a stone caught inbetween and its spent 5 years visiting builders merchants and on construction sites where theres thousands of different sized stones/gravel jonmacan2015-07-03 17:43:05

I had this problem with one of my XC60's on about the third trip out. We live down a one mile track which does have some loose stones. You did the right thing by backing up and hopefully the stone drops out. I took off the rear wheels and eased the protective plates wider and had no more trouble. Of course the chances of it happening to you again may never happen!

Not had any such problems with my Macan 1 or 2 on 20" Spyders but at PEC last month the Macan I was driving got a stone stuck between back plate and disc which I managed to shake loose on low friction skid plate.

SPL, had a few squeaks that I put down to very small stones in the brakes, however the disappeared quickly without my intervention, we have gravel mixed size in the front yard (farm / house) so sort of expect it. Will take more interest next time and will send back details.
