I picked up my brand new 911 Carrera T on 6th April 2018.

Just had confirmation that my car tax reduces by two thirds next month!

Reinforces my plan to keep this one long term!

Will be saving best part of £30 per month! :D

And yeah, I know I could save a few more quid by paying it annually in advance. ;)

Good news

We pay £415 per 12m in Band K, but paying by Monthly DD (or £395 in a one off payment) on my 2016 Turbo.

There is a thought, I must SORN mine before April as it will be off the road for at least three months.

If you're not expecting to see the year out it makes sense going monthly...... we'll miss you!

I brought forward the purchase of my last car by a couple of months to just ahead of when the new VED regime came in - can't remember exactly how much it saved me in VED over the six years and one month that I owned it, but it was several grand compared to a car registered after April 2017.

👍

Might be higher tax rate from its 6th birthday onwards though, for next owner etc, or had you kept it for more than 6 years?

My 3.0 flat-six 911 is now only £189 per year (probably slightly less if paid annually in advance).

I noticed a big drop (£520 to £180) when my car hit the 6 year mark.

Yep, if I paid annually in advance, my numbers would be the same as yours. 👍

Same numbers for me with my M6 in January when it passed its 6th birthday.

And now depreciation has (hopefully) done its worst, it feels like a relatively cheap car to keep.

So my M6 is being treated to some investment over the next few months. Refurb the diamond cut alloys, paint enhancement/correction and then ceramic coat for a start. It has only done 31,000 so I’m hoping to get it back to looking close to new condition.

Is my memory right though in that whilst the cost has now reduced at the time of purchase the initial outlay to Bloodsuckers Inc i.e. the DVLA was vastly more than it was pre April 2017 which when the Road Tax calculation system changed?

I've dug out the delivery invoice from my last car (BMW 440i Gran Coupe) back in December 2016.

Apart from cost of car (£48k discounted to £39k):

RFL First Registration Fee: £55.00
Road Fund Tax: £185.00

So, yes, it was very different back then.
