Just a quick hi.

Not an owner yet, but it could well happen this year.

Currently own a Genesis GV60 (will be returned to leasor) and a Maserati 4200 cambio corsa (to be sold to provide deposit).

Massive petrol head / car nut.

Wanted a Taycan, but the range just isn't enough for me, so 6 cylinders it is

Howdy. Also not quite an owner yet (S and GTS are on order for Sept 1st). So will you be test driving both 6 pots before deciding? Coming off a Rangie SVR there could be only one choice for me personally, but the S in medium spec is a great all-rounder too (wifey also gets a power hike from her 3L RR HSE to the S). What's your mindset here?

I think I've made the decision to make a private purchase.

I could get a new Cayenne ehybrid with work, with a few boxes ticked and 15k miles a year / 4 years, including insurance and maintainance, it would be £1200 ish a month net.

Obviously that's circa £60k over 4 years with nothing to show for at the end and it will be an extremely long wait.

A Panamera is another £200 a month more.

I need to sort a few things first, but once I do, I'll be test driving whatever I can get my hands on.

This will be my largest ever car purchase and its got to be right.

Welcome to our (usually) friendly forum! You seem to have made a sensible choice to me although I might be biased! Report back on the test drives.

Funnily enough we leased our RRs this time round and, though we got a cracking deal, it's actually a more sensible/cheaper option for us to buy our new Macans outright (back of beer mat math suggests an initial £150k(ish) outlay and possible £60k return after 4 years - including servicing/maintenance - versus an eventual £114k outlay and no cars after 4 years!!) Keep us posted on your endeavours!

Thanks all.

Assuming i sell a circa £50k macan in 4 years for around £25k with a max of approx 110k miles on the clock

Also Allowing for

2 years additional warranty £1500
2 services £1600 (I'm guessing)
£1600 tyres
4 years insurance
3 additional years Road tax

I reckon my total costs (after selling) will be £42k approx vs a Cayenne lease at around £57-60k.

Of course I could factor in the sale of my maserati into the lease costs, so that puts total cost at £48k ish.

OK it's not fair to compare the 2, but I simply don't need the additional size, although I prefer the upto date interior.

This is just back of a fag packet maths here.

Welcome

A GTS it is then.

https://configurator.porsche.com/porsche-code/PRWLAXP7

£76.5k

Above includes my own fave must have options:- Spare, 14/18 way seats, ACC, PS+, heated screen, heated seats, surround cam, privacy and insulated glass

I’d add £1600 to the above for a black/pebble interior

Wish I could order a new GTS, but unfortunately my budget doesn't allow for it.

My mate is ordering a new S and based on his configuration etc I'd need 30k down and I simply don't have that.

OK, so you are after a used Macan.

Do read up in the forum on running costs, a 40,000 mile service can be about £1,500 as there are major works to the engine and gearbox and the cost may or may not include £200-300 for clearing out the roof drains if a Pano is fitted. This work does involve removing all wheels and wheel arch shields to get to each of the four drains but it is still galling to be conned into paying it.

Extended Porsche warranty is a must have and they are probably £1,500 for two years and a caveat of the warranty is OEM parts being used and they do not come cheap

Owning a Porsche is not cheap so do checkout an Independent Porsche Specialist near you.

I've watched videos and read up on the pano roof issues... couldn't believe my eyes to see the battery literally swimming.

My last Maserati service was £1400 at a specialist, so I'm not venturing into unknown territory.

I've factored £1500 into my costs for extended warranty.

I certainly did have an independent porsche specialist near me (nottingham).
