When opening and closing the tailgate I get a horrible “creaking” sound at the beginning and end of the movement from, what appears to be, the hydraulic strut on the offside. I’ve tried squirting some liquid grease into the strut cover but with no improvement.

Has anyone else experienced this and how was it resolved?

No, but suggest it's not a good idea to squirt grease into the strut. There is a motor inside
