Having never used / driven an e-hybrid, does anyone know how it all works?! Do I need to charge it at home or does it recharge as it drives? 🤔

They’re plug in. So they spend ages charging for you to get a few miles out of them although I think they also recharge a bit as you drive (regenerative braking presumably).

I was put off the e-hybrid because I was told they’re heavier and less dynamic to drive. I also didn’t like the fact you couldn’t start it in petrol, only electric. Part of the fun is the sound of the roar when you switch the car on I think.

Saying that, if I was driving mainly small distances locally then electric/hybrid would save a fortune in fuel because these big cars do not enjoy small stop-start journeys.

Thanks Paul...interesting view.

Much of my use during the week is a 20 odd mile commute. So 40ish miles altogether. No plug-in available to parking space at work unless I use on road charging which is a bit rubbish in the centre of Manchester and I think would mean having the hassle of moving it at some point during the day which isn't really feasible.

Agree with you about start up...the rs4 made a nice sound.

Maybe e-hybrid isn't the answer!?

I might be wrong but they don't appear to be any cheaper in road tax either.

AndyC160 wrote: Wed May 10, 2023 9:32 am I went to see a b9 rs4 at the weekend. Slightly underwhelmed with the interior and the test drive, although it was only about 20 mins and the car had barely warmed up by the time the salesman wanted me to take it back so I only had a little go on the fast pedal. Felt very much like my b5 rs4 as the boost built up...it did feel fast.

Don't think the Mrs was massively impressed...boots too small, backward step from a Porsche etc etc 🤯

Am I right in thinking this is the same engine as in the gen 3 Macan S & GTS? And the Gen 2 Turbo?

A nicely spec'd Pan e-hybrid sport turismo has just come into my local OPC so I'll be booking a go in that ASAP.

Yes, same engine as in the Macan S & GTS.

If you need / want a fast estate, I'd be looking at M3 Touring. Far more desirable and driver focused (and faster) than an RS4.
And £100k
If you spec it that way, yes it's £100k. But you don't have to. can easily keep it under £90k.

Even if you find one for me at 60k...still leaves the issue of looks 🤢🤮

Looks aside, just wait for a six month old version - easily inside £65k as these M cars go down quicker than Drogba 👍

It's funny how BMW cars grow on people. I couldn't stand the way the new M3 looked. But now I think it looks fine, and would happily own an M3. Though I think I still would buy the Saloon.

That's definitely the problem with m cars and part of the reason I've discounted them...even when buying used you've got to think about the awful depreciation you suffer whilst having it.

You don't see anything like it with Porsche.

I've started to see a few of the M3 Touring out and about - lots of presence on the road.

Still a gopping front end, but somehow better in estate form.

Anyway...enough talk about the chipmunk. If I was spending 100k I'd get an rs6...bigger and sounds alot better!
