Hi All, anyone currently use a trickle charger on their Gen3 Macan?
I have to go away with work for 2-3 months? Just want to check the connections.
Hand book seems to only list for jump start. Can the same connection points be used for the optimate?

Cheers

Just found ‘charge the battery’ on page 246 of the handbook, hoping these are the correct connections for the optimate

The Porsche charger instructions shows a flying pair of leads and a cigar socket connected directly to the battery.

The cigar sockets inside the car shut off after 30 minutes and there is sensing circuits attached to the battery to control internal systems so long term use is best via direct battery connections.

The battery is located in the boot under the spare or under where the spare should be if you do not have one fitted.

You can plug in directly via 12 volt/cig light socket as long as you do this following ignition switch off the system recognises the connection and doesn’t switch off the connection.

I do not have the cigarette lighter adapter :(

On the 911 I used to connect the red & black crocodile clips, ed to battery, black to the earth mount.

Under the bonnet of the Macan there is a flap which shows a positive connection and below it a bolt for the earth. Does anyone know If this would suffice??

That is what I've done on my Gen 1, there is a thread on here somewhere covering it. The bonnet connectors are for jumping in preference to using the battery

Ok, looks like i'll just leave it and hope the battery is ok until I come back and then sort this out properly.

The underbonnet terminal is connected directly to the positive battery terminal and you can connect to any of the bare metal engine part for the negative. They're there to avoid having to empty the boot to make a jump start connection to the battery. A jump starter is simply a very fast trickle charger. It pumps out at 300A instead of 3A. So go ahead and use it.

if you're parking the car for 2 to 3 months would you put it on axle stands to save tyres?

I need my Gen3 to be trickle charged for similar reasons to you and have a CTEK charger connected to the underbonnet terminals that you describe.

I used the crocodile clips that came with the charger but have recently wired in the quick connection kit to the same terminals. No faffing about with cigarette lighter sockets and ignition switches either way.
