What was surprising was that in 100 years the image from about 1900 on the wall in the Visitor Centre showed a Glacier vastly larger than what we saw in 2004 when we stood in about the same place that the image was taken.

In 2004 it looked about 1/2 mile further up the valley than it did in the image.

Make of that what you will.

But what would the picture have looked like in 1800? Same as at 1900, or 1/2 a mile further up than 1900?
We had an ice age, and that is still melting away, but when did it start to melt, before human race was around?

All valid points, they aren't static and never have been, they ebb and flow, slowly! The question is how has the rate of change altered and is there ANY of that glacier still there now? :)

Unfortunately for us they haven’t worked out how to tax volcanoes yet!
Nella,
Thats a fair point, but maybe tax all those with Volcano grey Macan's as a way of compensation since thats the colour of the paint, all other paint colours are of course exempt!!

My take on it is that we have to try and help our planet but who is going to make the Chinese and Indians do the same thing?

Final word from me. I live in hope as my cup is always half full. unless it's Bushmills Malt. We already have 'Carbon Capture' in some industrial sites but the bury it just like Nuclear fuel. On that basis, I believe that there is someone on the planet who will come up with a solution to remove enough from the atmosphere to steady the climate. After all, who would have thought that when someone first came across a horrible smelling black goo made from pressurised dead organisms, someone would find a way for it to be powering our Macans?
