Yes, the tracking has obviously been out, I wish I knew why/how. Most of the width has got plenty of tread but the inner edges are seriously worn, driver's side being the worst.

I assume this is a stupid question but I take it you've had the steering realigned? Alignment really needs to be done on all four wheels.

Neil - yes I do know about the size difference! But will there be more than 3mm difference in tread depth between the new fronts and the existing rear tyres? If so, then I'm sure that your OPC will want you to change all 4 tyres.Neil1911 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 10:01 amSteve! That was fine on my Focus, but when front and back DON'T use the same tyres it can't be applied.SAC1 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 6:56 am Here is what the BTMA says about replacing a pair of tyres, rather than a full set:
"Due to their greater tread depth, new tyres will generally have better grip than the remaining tyres on the vehicle, especially in the wet. This grip differential can lead to vehicle instability under sudden manoeuvres, such as when swerving and braking to avoid a collision. Electronic stability programs reduce this risk but in general it is best to fit new tyres in pairs and to the rear axle. However, where the vehicle manufacturer gives different advice you should follow it."

OPC four wheel alignment works out cheap compared with a new set of tyres. Speed bumps knock hell out of tracking..................to say little about the potholes in our so called 'highways' some of which are little better than their roman counterparts

I was a little surprised they didn't, on checking the rears, on average, have 5mm, they must be happy with that.SAC1 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 12:05 pmNeil - yes I do know about the size difference! I'll certainly be keeping a closer eye on the tracking in future, although I find it strange this didn't seem to be an issue with the first set, they onky lasted 13,500 miles but the wear wasn't as uneven as these.

New tread is about 7 o 7.5 so 5 is within 3mmNeil1911 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 1:14 pmI was a little surprised they didn't, on checking the rears, on average, have 5mm, they must be happy with that.

Do you have a lot of speed cushions locally? Driving over these wears the inner shoulders rapidly.Neil1911 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 10:04 amYes, the tracking has obviously been out, I wish I knew why/how. A good number, but I wouldn't have thought I engaged with them often enough, once or twice a week maybe, and no more with this set of tyres than the previous ones. Regardless, I'll be switch to comfort mode and taking them square on rather than trying to straddle them from now on.Nuclear Nick wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 7:07 amDo you have a lot of speed cushions locally? Yes, good plan. Getting the offside or nearside pair of wheels over the centre of the pad evens out the wear across the face of the tyre.Neil1911 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 7:35 amA good number, but I wouldn't have thought I engaged with them often enough, once or twice a week maybe, and no more with this set of tyres than the previous ones.
