In my Defender the auto hold comes on as soon as the car comes to rest and you need to develop an extremely light and brief touch of the accelerator to release it. This can be quite tricky in tight spaces, especially on a slope. Yes, the Porsche system can engage on a slope when you don't want it to, and that can also make manoeuvring on a slope a bit challenging. Again, something you have to get used to once you know when to expect it and how to deal with it. Both designs have their pro and cons but I like the choice with the Porsche approach.
I agree with Nick ;) ;)

So do I. In our household we have both a Tiguan and the Macan so I have experience of both systems.

A separate post because I want to digress and talk about auto stop/start. It's relevant to this thread because the different auto hold systems influence driver behavior with stop start.

I normally drive either Tiguan or Macan with auto stop/start active. In my fully retired post pandemic world it's rare for the system to cut in but I drive in anticipation. Coming to a stand in the Tiguan if stop/start cuts in auto hold means you don't have to keep your foot on the brake. With the Macan, to keep the engine shut down the foot has to remain on the brake so "hold" is irrelevant. At traffic lights or a roundabout, it's possible to restart the Macan engine by easing pressure on the brake but still leaving sufficient to stop the car moving (on a hill "hold" prevents rolling anyhow). With the Tiguan, the engine remains shut down until the accelerator is pressed so anticipation is not possible. It usually means I deactivate stop/start in these situations.

BTW if traffic conditions dictate remaining stationary for more than two minutes, I engage park and the parking brake. I've been behind a Gen 2/3 Macan at night and know just how bright the brake lights are.

When I queue at the drive thru Costa, I have “hold” engaged and the engine will shut down on auto stop/start - I don’t have my foot on the brake…
Not sure if this is convenient or not but it happens?

Or are you saying if you keep the foot on the brake until move time the n battery protection or air con requirements are overrued and the engine won't restart while stationary?

Not saying that. Because I don't make a conscious effort to engage hold on the level sometimes the engine will restart for either of the reasons you mention. I think my habit of sitting with my foot on the brake goes back to driving automatics way before stop/start was invented. First automatic I owned was a 1972 Ford Granada.
