Hi Rarecolour, yes been there good few years ago now and as you mention great drive along the side of Loch Voil downto the hotel from Balquhidder.

There are lots of great roads to drive in that area of the Trossachs, another good road to drive is the B829 from Aberfoyle going west towards Loch Ard then Loch Chon, along the side of Loch Katrine before dropping down the side of Loch Arklet to the end of the road at Inversnaid on east side of Loch Lomond, lunch or a snack there and then back.

Those roads havent changed likley since they were built, a little widening here and there, but I know the tourist coaches that go to Inversnaid the drivers work for the money and pensioners on board do scream at times thinking the coach is already off the road and heading for a watery splash..........

We are indeed lucky still to have roads like that, but many dont know how to drive them properly especially in the winter.

Cheers GTB

I really need to get back up Scotland again. Used to go up there for a week every year, fantastic part of the world! Had some amazing drives up there during the winter, even in the works van.

Please post as many pics as you can take while you're out and about up there 👍🏻

Best be up early to try and beat everyone else on the route. A couple of mates have done it in camper vans , just ruins it for the ones who want to drive and enjoy the views.

I've also read that it's best to do the NC500 route in reverse, the best views are then at the end?

Unfortunately you're 10/15 years too late with the nc500. Great scenery but if you go up there to have fun on the roads, forget it...you'll get frustrated. Plenty of other great roads in Scotland away from the nc500.

This was the last time, in 2012, I went up there purely to enjoy the roads. I've been around there since on numerous holidays and seen it definitely get busier and less fun.
