Slightly odd perhaps for a Porsche forum, but many of us started out in the sort of vehicles that are likely to be at this festival. Has anyone been?

Not been but started out in a totally unexceptional car.

1961 Hillman Husky in the same colours as this image.

Please guys never moan about your mpg, I was lucky if I got in the high teens in this with 17mpg typical.

This was my first car (although not this actual one). Datsun 120Y in a mixture of white and rust. The sills under the doors had pretty much disintegrated and we had to use a wire mesh to try close the gaps. Cost £150 if I recall. Ran pretty well to be fair and was far more reliable than my subsequent Talbot Horizon.

This was my first car as a 17 year old. Bought at a building materials auction that I attended with my father some 50+ years ago. Dad paid £750 for a mixed lot of materials / wood including the car. A Ford Bowden Special with an E93A Ford [Prefect] side-valve engine driving an in-tube propshaft. A kit car that was already 30 years old when I aquired it.

The propshaft snapped after a spirited drive along the Exe valley B-road about 9 months later. Great fun as a first car and real taught me how to drive - oversteer / understeer / traction / braking etc after I'd taken my test. No safety kit at all and no wipers / doors / hood etc. It also gave me a real taste for the joys of open air motoring, which I have continued with other cars over the years....obviously I so wish I'd kept it forever.

Here is the 1959 Reliant Regal Mark V. I passed my test in on my 16th birthday having a Dad who taught me to drive when I was 12.

I'm pretty certain mine had wipers but they could have been an optional extra as 3 wheelers were taxed as motorcycles!

The first car I owned. This one is in much better condition than the one I had. The driver’s door had been dinged so I had to get in and out via the passenger door! But I needed a cheap pickup to transport my motocross bike.

This was my first car, sadly the only picture of it.

IMG-20200517-WA0003.jpg

Cost £3500 to buy, and first years insurance was £1700. I was initially looking for a 1.4 Astra but the insurance was going to be £1500, man maths told me a Limited edition Pug 205gti for an extra £200 on insurance was the way to go.
The money I spent on that car was crazy, it was possibly the most fun car I've ever had.

Had many firsts in that car.
