A guy has been fined and the costs mounted to over £4.5k when he failed to leave enough of a gap to a cyclist.

The cyclist had a rear facing GoPro and the footage certainly shows the driver passing with very little gap between him and the cyclist.

In case you are not aware on the 29th January the Highway Code changed and as drivers we now come way down the pecking order behind walkers, cyclists and horses.

So do read up and drive accordingly.

Perhaps I should fit a rear facing GoPro and report the brain dead cyclists who regularly ride very close to me when we are out walking our dog.

I agree Col that the driver did not leave enough space when passing the cyclist. He also seemed to think that if he ignored the offer to go on a reeducation course and then ignored the fixed penalty notice that the problem would go away. Expensive mistake!

Car forums are unfortunately usually a source of vitriol and frothing-at-the-mouth rage when it comes to cycling. PistonHeads is the absolute worst for it. I hope this forum can do better...!

This guy has brought it entirely on himself. He drove dangerously, got caught. He then refused the fine, went to court, lost the appeal and now has to pay £4.5+. Much easier to give other road users the appropriate space to ensure everyones safety on public roads.

The Porsche driver would have given him a little tap in to the hedge and got much better value for money !

I'm a keen mountain biker & travel all over biking at off-road destinations such as Dalby Forest.... I also have a Jag F Pace and a Macan

I'm with the driver on this. It's a large SUV on UK roads. I'm fed up with idiot surveillance bikers in search of trouble. The biker also shouts obscenity at the driver..... says alot for how the judge judges peoples character.

Typical BBC propaganda also, unlikely to be the full story & the unaware of what happened prior to this . Bikers are becoming a more of a thorn in the side for motorists since the new farcical law

Cars and vans get as close as that to me regularly when I'm on my bike. To be honest, I think he's only got himself to blame; no need for it, as there was nothing coming the other way.
