Hi All,

Searched but can't find a post on this so any help appreciated. I have a gen 2 GTS with 8k miles which after a drive from London to Bristol told me to add max one litre of oil...ok to drive. On the return leg the yellow warning remained on until just after Reading when it went off. I've duly bought the correct oil but the car stubbornly tells me that the level is now correct.

I obviously don't want to overfill but nor do I want to drive around on minimum. Any ideas on these mixed messages, could it be a sensor issue?

Why not add 0.5 litre just in case?

Check the display in the mfd when parked on level ground and the engines warmed up a little. The gauge will give you an indication of how far between min and max you are. Add 0.5litres (or 0.25 if you are cautious) and then do another reading after 10 minutes. Repeat if need be.

Thanks for the replies. Didn’t realise the reading was graduated and not just ok / fill as directed. Will give it a go.

I recall that when the warning came up on mine, it had disappeared by the time I got the oil (the car didn't come with any) but reappeared soon after, perhaps a week, and then took the whole litre.

It's not graduated. In the Gen 2 Cayenne, the graphic in the MFD had graduation marks at quarter litre intervals whereas in the Macan it just shows max and min. However, it is possible to estimate how much oil to add. If the warning has appeared then the level in the MFD display should be at or slightly below the min level.

To read the oil level, the engine must be up to temperature and the car have been standing on level ground for at least five minutes after engine shut down. I still check the level at intervals and over 10k miles have added 400ml of oil. At the moment, I could squeeze in a further 400ml but as the level has remained constant for the last few thousand miles I figure it will last the two months to the car's first service.

It was my understanding that if the warning came up, we just needed to add a litre. As with all things Porsche it's possible to get a bit obsessive and OTT though. Incidentally I've just booked in for my 30K oil change, the PCM has been counting down from "Oil change required in 800 miles" last was at 100, but now the mileage is up to 30,360 it's gone quiet...... sulking? I've been quoted £309.16 for the change, down from £434 last time, that was a surprise.

Does an oil change have to be done at an OPC? Assuming the recommended oil and genuine filter are used
This is for a car in the warranty period

Your understanding is correct. My regular checking is a hangover from the days when car engines regularly burnt oil to a greater or lesser extent. My Mercedes (three E Class, all diesel), Diesel Cayenne, Macan SD and now Macan GTS have all used oil in the first few thousand miles but thereafter used none between services.
