GTS - About to step in to the world of Porsche!

Firstly hello to all of you and to the forum

I’ve been reading for quite some time, researching with the intent of getting into the new Gen3 GTS. I started this quest last year but gave up due to crazy lead times being quoted by some dealerships and a weird arrogance by a certain few Dealerships that just turned me off the whole thing as well. I ended up getting into a very nice new high spec X5, which has been an absolutely incredible car, but in fairness is too big for my needs, so I’m back onto the GTS thing again (I know gluten for punishment)

The whole experience has been pretty much a copy and paste scenario from last year to be fair, in fact it’s probably worse with the current world issues, but I promise I will persist, stay the course and see this through.
I have had a better OPC experience so far and most seem helpful, but still quoting 12 months plus for GTS.
My plan is to place the order, get on the list and hopefully get into an ex demo GTS in the interim then flip the demo for my new GTS with the spec I ordered etc..
the car will be an outright purchase and changed every 12 months, my thinking is I’d be able to get out of the demo ( I do low miles so circa 3-4k pa) for reasonable money, close to list (not sure if it will float over list, but have seen a few cars currently massively over list) then jump into the new one, and repeat another year down the line, maybe moving to EV? Who knows by then but that’s the basic idea.

Sorry for the information dump, but just needed to jump in say high and get this in writing so it’s now out there and has to happen right?

I’m looking forward to porsche ownership, driven a few over the years, and I’m a true petrol head and lover of cars, it’s my vice if you will.

Sounds a good plan , just somehow try and keep tabs on what the dealers or used specialist hold as demos .
The “ float above list “ thingy of course works against the plan is the head wind .Until you get your allocated one through.

Thanks for the reply. ^this is what was keeping me awake last night, the residual value/depreciation aspect.
I’ve done well over the years with regards to my ‘car fund’ I’ve always kept this fund from my very first car, which was a V Reg mini special, every car since has been part of the fund, increased year on year, when things were good, the fund got a bit more money in, when things not so good, it stayed the same, but on the whole it’s increased through good purchase choices and most importantly me caring lad looking after these vehicles well. I’m a 2 buckets car wash bloke, so that should say it all, but I do it for the love of cars.
Buying new goes against the many years of growing the fund, but I think uniquely the GTS Macan is the nearest thing you can get to loosing very little over the space of a year (given the low mileage etc) but I’d be lying if I said my spider sense isn’t tingling about the whole thing. Im getting my head around that this next journey may indeed cost me some money out of the fund, but it will be the smiles per miles I’m paying for. I accept this. What I don’t want to do is blow my brains out unnecessarily just to get in to the seat of a GTS Macan.

I’ve done well on the X5 in that it’s now worth more than what I paid for it, so that should counter some of the loss going forward on the demo.

I know this probably seems to be transfixed on the financials, but for me it’s the prerequisite for me enjoying the ownership that comes after, it’s a system I’ve used and it’s serviced me well over the years.

For me it’s the demonstrator vehicle that throws in the curve ball as some dealer spec’d cars just don’t make sense to me. I get the usual pan roof, chrono options but some options like the £260 colour coded keys, over a similarly priced driver saftey aid just don’t make sense to me or is this more targeted at the typical ‘Porsche owner’? I genuinely believe I could build a car with £10k less spec that I think would be more desirable than a dealer spec car and they’re the dealers who should in all fairness know what makes the car desirable right? Some of those Porsche sales guys are certainly more unique than other sales guys that’s for sure.

I expect you’ll pay way more for the ex demo than the car on order. The few Gen 3s I’ve seen have been way over list. Think you’d be better off sticking with the X5.

Out of curiosity, if size was the issue why didn’t you go with an X3 instead?

Just for your own satisfaction really as it's all too easy to be influenced by comments on here as to how good the GTS is. This will also help you when speccing time comes in the summer of 2023!

Agree as above about the pricing of a demo GTS. You certainly won’t be getting a bargain as it will be over list and as you say will be highly specced.

Key to Porsche ownership in the most financial prudent way is patience, place your order to your spec and wait. What you drive while you wait and what it costs needs careful thought.
