A new(ish) Alpina would be the only thing to get me out of the Porsche brand at present. However, the latest 3 series (still B3?) are around £60k minimum, which is a lot for a 3 series.
I had a 2.9 3 series Alpina around 1990 and still my most favourite car I have owned in terms of drama and general specialness - very fond memories of that car even today.

Edit: it was a 2.7 C2 in metallic grey 😊

That would have been an E30? Used to love the 325i sport in that shape, I believe that’s what the C2 was based upon?

Yes it was a 325 (E30) bored out to 2.7 from memory. I’m not great at the technical stuff but I sure loved that car. I think it was 210bhp which at the time seemed ludicrously fast - it used to eat RS2000 escorts for breakfast! 😂

The C2 2.7's were what got my interest in Alpina going. I was buying a 1990 325i Sport at the time from a specialist, and he had a C2 2.7 tourer in stock. Out of my pocket money back then...

However, in 2010 I bit, and have owned 4 since (one, a Roadster S was my wifes daily hack). I love what they did, but I'm now uncomfortable with their BMW base cars which are getting tedious and price points: for equivalent 3 series Alpina money, I can get a really lovely Macan.....and they don't match up at all. The XD3, the smaller SUV they do, is hideous and far to hard suspension-wise. Plus it's a derv, so I can't do that.

I miss my B3Sbiturbo wagon, but the Macan will more than replace it. When it eventually arrives !
Best, Ade
