I don’t even know why neutral exists on the macan?
I noticed when parking on an incline that there was a noticeable clunk when moving from park to reverse. Someone mentioned that if car was placed in N then parking brake then P, that the clunk (presumably gearbox reacting to the incline in some way) won’t happen?

Because you can't move the car in park or drive. So if it needs to be towed or moved on a transporter, you'll need neutral.
Thanks! Every day is a school day!

That, complaining that a park brake has to be applied manually, and that Porsche have made a backwards step because of it! :o

I’m just annoyed it is more difficult to do handbrake turns now

A good stamp on the throttle can help replicate it, but yeah, turning into boring world now.

MacanPNeil wrote: Sun Jan 30, 2022 8:20 pm I may be missing somthing here but on a gen 2 Macan does the parking break (hand break) come on automatically or is this not the case?

My previous Mercedes’ and VW all had the parking break come on as soon as the car was in P and the ignition turned off. Im finding that I am pressing (or pulling - can’t remember now) the (P) button on the central control panel to activate it.

My Macan only automatically releases it if I’ve started the car, put it in D or R and press the accelerator.

It maybe the case that this is how it is and I just need to get out of the autopilot mode when parking the car abs thinking it will do it automatically…..
You'll just have to get into the habit when you pull into a parking area for a break from driving that you have to manually apply the parking brake. ;)

I don't know when Mercedes switched to an electronic parking brake. The last Merc I had (2011 E Class) still had the foot applied/hand released parking brake system.

They still use that system on their brand new Vito vans.
