Just when parked on a flat/level surface, or even on a hill/steep hill?

It was the days when I had cars with a manual gearbox, so I see no reason why the same logic should not apply

I’ll be hopefully picking my GTS up next month and I will be disappointed that the handbrake doesn’t have the option to have it coming on automatically. I have had the option for it to be auto or manual for the last ten years which has been great, but I have been recently using a car that it has to be done manually and it’s a right pain. Ok I know it’s not difficult to apply but it’s not also difficult to have the option made configurable .

Technically it’s illegal in the UK not to apply your handbrake when parking on public property.

Does the vehicle go into gear on its own or do you have to move a lever?
Come on people, this is a little button that you have to move, it really isn't the end of the world. To think that some on here might have to use some strength to pull a hand brake lever up on an older vehicle :o

This is why the world has gone NUTS, complaining about little things like this.

Yeah, this was a rant and sorry if its offended some not really
Just been told I can't drive for another week and reading folk complain about moving a button is pretty annoying!

Yeah, I get it with a manual gearbox (which I have). ;)

I can see the potential benefit when parked on the flat, but I think there could be issues if parked on a hill, especially a steep hill, if left in gear, but with handbrake or parking brake not deployed.

I was taught to always turn the wheels into the curb when I parked on any slope in case the handbrake failed. I still do it today.

That makes complete sense! :geek:

Am sure I was told to use hand brake when parked, when I passed my test in 1988.

I just think that (especially on a hill) not using the handbrake could lead to undue stress on the gearbox? 🤔
