At this kind of mileage on steel discs, the replacement of the surface coated GTS discs shouldn't be something that comes along often. I will just budget for it well in advanced and it'll be 'slightly' less painful.
If a normal steel brake can last at least 60k miles and 30% extra life for the PSCB, then it may well last till 80k miles meaning about 10 years of my expected mileage. Obviously there is a need to change brake pads over this 10 years period.

For me, the ACC is a handy “byproduct” which I mainly use in restricted or temporary speed zones so handy 👍
Jon, are you suggesting that the car stopped without your intervention or just alerted you to press the brake and so avert "contact"?
It emergency braked entirely without my intervention. There is no way I could have reacted in time if just left to me as the cyclist came straight in front of me from 90 degrees to my left.
The other occasion was in slow moving traffic jam when car in front stopped as I was changing radio station. Obviously I could have prevented that one but still saved a low speed shunt…

Actually the newish IAM Masters Course is tougher than the HPC course and I speak as an HPC member.
Even the basic IAM or RoSpa course is worth doing might save your life…

I don’t doubt it but it’s not germane to the point re emergency brake assist. Some circumstances are just outside of the drivers control no matter how highly trained. I would always advocate safety aids over driving aids, so things like ABS and seatbelts for example.
There will always be someone somewhere that suggests these things aren’t needed if the driver is sufficiently trained, but this is just supercilious bulls**t of course, as all of us will err from time to time.

If driving using the Roadcraft IPSGA method you should always be able to anticipate the unexpected and be able to deal with anything other fuckwit road users or conditions throw at you… however Humans are not perfect and even the best trained drivers suffer from failures in concentration…
My point is don’t knock the IAM unless you have at least done the test and yes I have driver aids in my Macan!

I have not “knocked” any driver training at any point. I simply make the point that there are certain circumstances that occur where it would be irrelevant but where certain driver aids would be useful. In my case to the point of saving a life.
