I seem to have a problem with the rear seat belt warning indicator in my 4 month old GTS.
I don’t often have rear seat passengers, but the last couple of times I have dropped off passengers by pulling up, letting them out and driving off again without turning off the car, as soon as I drive off the rear seat belt warning light and beeper start and keep going for a few minutes. They then stop by themselves. I’ve never noticed this before, and as I say I rarely carry rear seat passengers, is this normal? It has happened with one passenger and with two. First time it happened I stopped and my wife got out to check the rear doors were properly shut and there was nothing on the seats, this made no difference and the warning beeping continued for a while after we drove off again.
It definitely didn’t happen in my previous Macan S.

Sounds like a fault with the sensors in the seats? I'd take it back to your OPC and ask them to sort it out for you!

Suggest you have a read of this USA Macan Forum thread, which seems to discuss the same issue you’re experiencing......hope it helps!

As this person said. I believe there are no sensors in the rear seats and so if you take your seat belt off the car when the engine is on it will alarm. This was confirmed when my children were messing about with the rear centre seat belt when we were on a journey. They fastened it and then unfastened it. Lo and behold the alarm was sounding for 60 sec before turning off 🤦🏻‍♂️. The only way to override it is to turn the engine off then restart if you are dropping (rear seat) people off. Very primitive system!

Another Porsche safety feature that I found out in the gen 3 is that if you have the (door) child lock on, it disables the rear ventilation temperature switch and the heated seat switches. I think this is a good safety feature, very clever.

There are sensors in the rear seats. When you start the car, at the base of the MFD you get three images. If there is no one in any of the rear seats, the images are green. If any of the seats are occupied then the image for the occupied seat is red. The seat belt alarm then sounds if you drive off and any of the occupied seats (front and rear) don't have a fastened seat belt.

It looks as if the car is not registering that a previously occupied seat is now empty which is why you're getting the "no Seat Belt" alarm.

This feature has been there since Gen 1.

Update, talked to the dealer, they think it’s a fault with the sensors in the rear seats.

It’s booked in for early January, they are very busy in the workshop and as it’s not a major problem that’s stopping me using the car, I didn’t push it. It’s in for two days, wonder what loan car I’ll get, last time it was a Merc.

I'll be watching this one as my Gen 3 S behaves as per the US forum and I agreed with their diagnosis that there aren't any sensors in the seats, only three seatbelt sensors.

Mine doesn't do what Tracky says - upon starting the 3 passenger icons are always red as the belts are not connected.

If a passenger gets in, closes the belt then it goes green but not if they keep the belt unfastened - icon stays red but no alarm! It doesn't know someone is in the seat without a seatbelt.

Once the user icon is green, if they disconnect the belt without turning the engine off your get the warning for 60 seconds.

If this is as per the US description and there are no rear sensors I think it's pretty poor from Porsche, but I don't use the back seats often so haven't chased the dealer yet either.

Let us know what you hear?

Sounds like mine works the same as MCKD’s car but I haven’t had anyone get in the back and not fasten their seat belt to see if it alarms when I drive off. I’ll wait and see, but suspect that the dealer doesn’t fully understand the system as no one has questioned this before.
Will update in January after the dealer visit.

Did another check today, got passengers in the back and drove off without them fastening their seat belts, no audible alarm, just the display showing three red seatbelt indications, same as you get with no one in the rear. This display disappears after a minute so you would only know if people did do up their seat belts if you noticed multi function screen indication turns green before it times out and disappears. So no alarm if they don’t do up their belts but an alarm if they undo their seat belts once done up, even if they are no longer in the car.
Summary of multifunction display indication for rear seat passengers and seatbelts.
No rear passengers - three red symbols for a minute when you drive off
Rear passengers without belts on - same as for no passengers
Rear passengers with seat belts - symbols turn green for the seat with belts fastened, disappearing after a minute.
Rear passengers undo seatbelts while car is in motion, symbol flashes red and audible sounder for a minute or until belt refastened
Car stops and rear passenger unfastens belt and gets out of car - symbol flashes red and audible sounder for a minute when you drive off (if you didn’t turn the car off when the passengers got out).
