The valuations are only from Autotrader. WBAC/Motorway may value lower, but we have no intention of binning either car anytime soon so not an issue for us. My point was, in this example, the depreciation of the Macan is considerably less painful.HertsMacan wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 8:18 pmYou've done well 12,500 in 20 months. Not done a valuation but i think i am looking at about £16-£17K in 18 months - ouch! I am disappointed in that amount of depreciation i must admit, and thought it would not be quite so high. Lets hope it slows down a bit and i can get nearer to my of £600 per months over the longer term i intend to keep it.Old Chimer wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 6:33 pm Autotrader valuation estimates my 20 month old S is worth circa £12,500 less than I paid for it, new.
They also estimate that my wife's 17 month old Mini Electric is worth £14,300 less than she paid for it, new, despite it costing half the price of my Macan and having done only 40% of the mileage mine has covered.
Let's see her try telling me I have extravagant taste

Not at all surprising, EVs are depreciating much faster than petrol cars right now.Old Chimer wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 6:33 pm

Not sure those days are over. Just got this valuation up date from Motorway and prices have moved up a little. The original sale price they have is incorrect. It was actually £71500 but the trade figure is still 70% of the original.HertsMacan wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 6:59 pmYes, because the 42 month old one sold last Feb was bought pre pandemic before numerous hefty price raises and sold before the arse dropped out of the second-hand car market last autumn. I suspect you got lucky with the timing on that one - wonder what WBAC would have paid for it 6/8 months later. I bet the new one, like my Macan, will not recoup anything like that percentage at 42 months old. Those days are over.Neil1911 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 6:02 pmI assume you mean TODAY, but I sold my 42 month old S to WBAC last February for 72% of what it cost. Its replacement, one year old yesterday, might not recoup so much but I don't give a toss its not going anywhere!HertsMacan wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 2:39 pm
Show me a four year old Macan which can be SOLD (not bought) for 60% of what it was new.

Did I say I was surprised? I tried hard to persuade her against buying it in the first place. That said, it costs about 2.1p/mile to run and does pretty much all our short journey mileage.andreas wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 11:51 pmNot at all surprising, EVs are depreciating much faster than petrol cars right now.Old Chimer wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 6:33 pm

I see your point now. Perhaps Macan's will continue to depreciate at a slower rate, although i expect part of your differential is that fact that your comparing ICE with EV. Be interesting to hear from somebody who has bought another ICE car new within the last 2 years.Old Chimer wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 9:15 pmThe valuations are only from Autotrader.
