I spoke to the instructor at the PEC about that because the one I was hacking around in had less that 1000 miles on. The chap apparently used to run engineering teams at Aston Martin so knows his stuff. He said modern engines do not need running in. It certainly felt a lot more responsive than mine having spent most of its short life being ragged.

Most people on the forum think otherwise but I’m more likely to believe someone who does this stuff for a living.
They don't care about race engines because they will get re-built much more often obviously but yes arguably they will be overall quicker, until they go pop!
