If it’s anything serious I doubt the would even cover the labour at an OPC…look at me with my new terminology…I’m learning from you guys 😁. So I’m not sure the warranty offered is worth the paper it’s written on. Porsche said £800 for a year, £1,250 for 2 years!

When i bought my Macan in Sept 2021 I was offered a WarrantyWise policy for around the same money as the Porsche one, with decent coverage and plenty of allowance for OPC labour rates. Didnt need the OPC inspectio and rectification to take it out of course.

Any warranty for 3 years for £467 is suspicious to my eyes - I suppose it would cover minor issues (assuming they are covered! ) but its not enough to cover drivetrain issues - some OPCs are approaching £200/hour labour rate.

Why did yours not need an inspection? Was it new or under extensive warranty?

Yes, the warranty I’ve been offered doesn’t sound right. I’ve been going through the list of exclusions. Porsche only seem to exclude wear and tear which is fair!

I bought from a non OPC and the Porsche warranty had expired with the previous owner.

I considered going down the Porsche warranty route, but..
- i would have had to buy a new set of Porsche approved tyres ( the selling dealership i bought the car from had fitted brand new Uniroyals - brilliant btw!) - immediate cost £830 for Michelin N rated tyres
- i would have the cost for a OPC inspection £200 from recollection
- then need to keep to OPC servicing - I've just had a minor service, the PDK service plus brake fluid completed - used Porsche specialist I've dealt with for 12 years and saved £600 over OPC pricing

So i could have followed the Porsche warranty route but I concluded..

> i'd have been £830 out of pocket for tyres to replace an already new set of tyres - will go to Porsche rated tyres when these wear out, another 20k miles i suspect
> £600 extra with OPC for recent service plus similar premiums for future services with the Porsche warranty clauses
> £200 + any rectification work prior to being granting Porsche warranty
> I wouldnt trust any OPC with my car - seen far too many shoddy practices through their plate glass gallery windows - undertrays dropped from the ramps 6' in the air, alloy wheels dropped on the floor etc etc

Did i go the WarrantyWise route instead ? No - I have no warranty - some would say its a risk but for the years i did extend the warranty on my previous Boxster i never needed 1p of a claim, and ran the last 9 years of that ownership with no warranty and without any issues. I also bought a diesel Macan so I dont have to protect against the cost of the failed timing belt cover bolts/oil leaks of the 6 cylinder petrol models

My man maths..
Savings in 6 months ownership to date - £830 + £600 + £200 > £1630
Savings in next two service visits (Specialist vs OPC) - £1200 if not more
Saving in warranty payments next 3-4 years - £1600

Could come back and bite me at some future point, but i'll worry , and reflect on that, if it happens.

Hope that helps a little

Thanks so much. I spoke to Ben. A pre-purchase inspection is absolutely the way to go. If the car dealer doesn’t want to take the car for the inspection, that’s a red flag! I really appreciate the referral.

That helps a lot. Thanks for sharing.

So if you get a Porsche warranty you have to have Porsche services? I’m happy to find a good Porsche specialist. I just want to know what I’m potentially buying, good or bad. I hope this one works out for me, if not I’ll just have to keep looking.

Sounds like you’ve done well without the warranties. 😊
