Oil confusion

Last month, I got a 'add one litre of oil' message on the dash. On opening the bonnet. there was, and still is, a sticker saying to use Mobil 1 0w -30 c30 porsche approved. I was near an Halfrauds so popped in and they had Mobil 1 esp 0w-30 therefore I added that. Now as , at the time, the mileage was about 19500 and the thing had allegedly been service 2400 miles previously, I was a little surprised about having to add oil. I swift email to the salesman at Chester where I bought got the response 'The engine is still bedding in'. What? still bedding in after two years and 19500 miles??? I smell a rat. Having just looked on the Mobil website, Mobil recommend ESP X2 0w-20. Now I am no expert on lubrication but I am off to Chester tomorrow unannounced to 'discuss' the bedding -in issue and the oil grade used during the service. Should the oil be changed now completely or is it ok to have two grades swilling about in the engine? Watch this space.

I have a Gen2 S 2019 and have the C30 sticker under the bonnet
I was given a litre of Mobil 1 0w -30 by the supplying OPC with the car in April 2019
This was placed in the Macan at 9000 miles when the car asked for it on the MFD.
My Macan had its two year service in March 2021 at 13500 and the OPC did the oil change with Mobil One ESP X2 0w-20 and left a litre of that in the car.
Macan then called for another litre of oil at 16000 and I used the ESP X2 0w-20.
Macan has now reached 23800 and has not yet called for another litre although looking at oil measurement gauge this could happen any time.
I understand the C20 rather than C30 recommendation is to give better protection on cold starts and to improve fuel consumption. It is a slightly thinner oil than C30
It almost looks like the OPC did not completely fill the oil post service, next time I will look at the oil measurement gauge immediately afterwards.
I actually agree with the comment about still bedding in as my previous cars have always taken about 30000 to give their absolute best

Oil specs change all the time. My 2017 S has now done around 31000 miles; I've never added any oil to it. It's had 2 services, and each time I've been told that Mobil 1 FS 0-40 oil has been used, which meets Porsche spec A40. I can't see that topping up with a slightly different version of Mobil 1 will (a) cause any damage, or (b) result in any perceptible change in fuel consumption.

On Gen2 and Gen 3 car using an A oil rather than a C20 or C30 would cause damage or early failure of the petrol particle filter because the A-spec permits more sulphur is my understanding.andreas wrote: ↑Thu Feb 03, 2022 3:59 pm Oil specs change all the time. I agree the difference between C20 and c30 is marginal but C not A matters for Gen 2 and 3 cars

Hmmm, Audi engines.

No any post 2019 petrol engine meeting modern emission standards
ps I was tempted to say at least timing chain covers have not leaked to date

Good point! Mine hasn't leaked ... yet.

Presumably all part of the OPC service plan/script, maybe even written by Porsche gmbh. Que serra!pmg wrote: ↑Thu Feb 03, 2022 3:45 pm I have a Gen2 S 2019 and have the C30 sticker under the bonnet
Same here, collected 1 Sept 2019.

Didn't get that

Same here but I had to buy it first

Mine was August at 19,738, this time they left a litre in the car
Macan then called for another litre of oil at 16000 and I used the ESP X2 0w-20.
Same here, just 2,500 miles later!
Macan has now reached 23800 and has not yet called for another litre although looking at oil measurement gauge this could happen any time.
I'm now on 26,000, not checked the level I'm rarely anywhere flat enough to do it, next time I refuel will do it.

Seems so, me too. We're supposed to feel as if it's a freebie I guess, which obviously it isn't!

Turns out that 0w-30 is ok but they used 0W-20 when it was serviced and adding a litre of 0W-30 shouldn't cause any issues. Still not sure why there is the 0W-30 sticker from the factory. I have had a few BMW's and I miss the straight six engine although the turbo'd ones are not as tuneful as the naturally aspirated ones. This V6 is rough by comparison, plenty of power but nothing in the way of refinement. Just my view. They say the 2.9 is sweeter. Any comments on that?.

It is and it has a distinctive "voice", especially when you extend it. But it is not as smooth as a BMW 6-cylinder petrol IMHO.
