I'm also interested in battery longevity and replacement costs ... hearing a few horror stories of early adopters (in other brands) faced with huge battery replacement costs or what happens in an accident if part of the battery is damaged, does the entire unit need changing or is it modular?

Good points. With a BMW i3, battery replacement is £20,000 making an eight year old car scrap. Head of used sales at our local BMW dealership was explaining the warranty is 8 years, the cars are eight years old now and they're fearing the backlash from owners if their battery needs replacing after the eight year warranty has expired. He explained the body has to be lifted away from the battery chassis to replace the cells, and that each battery cell, 96 of them, has to be replaced individually.

Kerrching for the manufacturers as they sell extended warranties and I guess some interesting decisions in the 2nd hand market for those buying older models.

This is a good point as the batteries may well last 200k miles but if out of warranty after 8 years who would take the risk of buying one for more than a few hundred quid!

As JonA said, you can't take it with you.

By the time it's released they'll be discounting all EVs by 25% making the decision to go to the dark side much harder.
