Saturday saw a scattering of snow, Sunday it was 4 inches deep and icy.
I don't have winter tyres, just 21 inch zeros.
The Macan was fantastic both days, was really impressed.
We were staying in the Langdale hotel. Over 8 inches fell in places and road getting to Elterwater was completely blocked. Nothing in or out. Abandoned cars everywhere.

Never seen snow come down like that for 20+ years. We ended up having to spend another night. Luckily the road was cleared and gritted so we could get out today.

I can think of thousands of places worst to be stranded in than in the Langdales.

One of our favourite watering holes is up the road at the Old Dungeon Ghyll pub, just the place to stop on the way down from Harrison Stickle.

The quantity of snow does seem to have caught many by surprise our local news had full coverage.

I used to have to travel around The Lakes a lot, can be scary in Winter if one is not used to it. I used to ski so was well used to being prepared in Winter with the emergency bag in the boot and always a full tank of fuel.

...should've ticked the "heated tailgate" option. Would have stopped his hands getting frozen to it as his wife blindly drove off!

(Wouldn't have been so bad had he left his skis on)

Arg - heartbreaking! Glad no one was behind the car at the time. Nothing you could do - simply physics in play unfortunately.

Would winter tyres have stopped the slide or would full Nordic studs have been required?

Maybe, but just using the snow shovel on that bit would have been sufficient although I've been parking on this slope for 30+ years without an issue, possibly and crucially, without 295 tyres. One point it shows is that putting the car in "Park" provides no braking effect at the front axle, that was on "dry ground".

My heart survives, worse things happen at sea and on the road. Physics though.....nail on the head, so where's the daughter with the Masters in it when it's needed?

When putting my winter tyres on I noticed that the front wheels spun freely when tightening the bolts , haven't come across this on my other cars.

My drive way has an incline similar to yours, did not think that by removing you item from the boot, would lighten the load enough to allow it to "float" down the driveway, did it present weigh much?

Sorry to see that. Hope it can be sorted fairly easily. Yes I think snow tyres would have stopped that happening but then it’s always easier to be wise after the event.

Haven’t seen any snow here ……….yet
