Interesting that the 18/19 menu cost of £525 for brake fluid +2 year service compares with my recent quote of £774 ( base gen3 ) which is a 47% increase in 3 years. Difficult to justify so all the more reason to get and share service quotes so we can negotiate with opcs?

My quote for oil/filter change only if done before minor service is £440 which I believe is excessive especially as you can get 5Litres of mobil c20 oil from cox motor parts delivered for £45, oem filter parts/drain plug are circa £40 leaving £337 to cover top up oil, disposal charges and labour to change oil which takes 30 minutes.

Please note if the oil change is done before the minor service then the minor service cost becomes £463 so there is a £130 (903 v 774) penalty for getting an early oil change. Interesting?

I honestly think a reputable indy specialist will do just as good a job as a Porsche technician. Indeed many indies used to work for Porsche. And they use Porsche OEM parts too.

Logically, the difference is in the cost of running the business. An OPC cost millions to build, has an army of staff to pay, runs a fleet of Porsche courtesy cars and offers customers nice coffee & pastries. If I can knock an OPC price down to close to the indy quote, I don’t mind paying that little bit extra to enjoy a low mileage, Porsche loan car for the day.

I asked my trusted Porsche specialist for servicing costs for my SD not long after i purchased it..

Minor service £275 + vat
Brake fluid £70 + vat
PDK service £230 + vat

The only reason i might consider using an OPC next month when all above is due it to retain the last year of the 7yr warranty of the transfer box. Then again I suspect OPC bill for the above is going to be ca £1250-1300, compared to £700 at the indy, which is a good chunk of money towards a transfer box if I'm unlucky in next 12 months

Are those indy prices still correct, or may they have increased since then?

Those prices were November last year, and checking other independents online who show prices they seem typical

What experience do forumers have going down the independant servicing route while their car while under new car or extended warranty? Have they had warranty work rejected because servicing, oil and fluid changes have not been done by an opc? Do you have specific examples of difficulties and reasons for not honouring the warranty? Has any body got examples of goodwill outside of warranty because of opc only servicing which would justifying continuing to use opc for servicing.

Just been to Brooklands today to ask about cracked door handle repair ... to inspect them they want £350 per hour !!! but it wont take an hour they said !!

The Yanks have a term for ridiculous charge out rates, it's called gouging. Report them to trading standards.

Jeez that is more than most of my staff, although I can still top that….

When I was looking to purchase my first Porsche in 1994. I saw the actual car I bought in a Porsche showroom in a City are some 200 miles from where I live. When I showed an interest to purchase, the Salesman told me he could not sell it me, as I didn’t live in his area. And went on to explain I had to go my local Porsche dealer to buy.
That could not happen now, as EU clamped down on anti competitive practices. But it goes to show how it was years ago, and what they did.
So now they are competing with each other, even at the same franchise. I think it’s what they can get away with.
