As I reported on here recently, with the Taycan being the best selling Porsche in the UK last year. ;) No doubt, in part, due to its favourable tax treatment, in addition to being an excellent EV. :)

Things are not making sense Simon

Autocar has Macan with over 80k sold first, Cayenne not far behind in second and Taycan third with 40k+ Sales

The Europe figures 80k do not include UK sales 13k - blame Boris.

Hi Col,

Worldwide the Macan sold over 88,000 and is the top selling Porsche, worldwide.

In the UK, Porsche sold more Taycans than they did Macans, in the UK. ;)

Cheers,

I’m most surprised that the 911 outsold the cayenne in uk?!

Looks like Brits prefer their SUVs to be Macan-sized! :)

And they love a timeless, iconic sports car too! ;)

I have no evidence for this, but my conclusion from my numerous conversations with my SE and the Sales Director that Porsche were being very strategic in terms of what vehicles they shipped to the UK presumably because of the whole CO2 target thing coupled with the supply shortage. I assume that somewhere there is a report Porsche produce summarising the total emissions of vehicles entering into the UK and there are targets. Therefore it would make sense to flood the UK with Taycans and boast about Green targets and send the higher emission vehicles to places where they are less fussed (Middle East, China and the USA for example). My Cayenne GTS was only the 2nd one that my OPC had got their hands on all year and I bet a hybrid would have come across way quicker.

Moving forwards, and with the supply chain issue looking like dragging well into this year, it will be interesting to see how the waiting lists compare for GTS's and higher emission vehicles versus Taycans and hybrids.

It's also interesting to break down where the vehicles ended up. 32% in China, a market that probably barely registered on pie charts a few years ago. 23% USA and less than 5% to the UK. However the UK got around 33% of all the Taycans produced according to that report. That's clearly a strategic decision, and would be really interested to know how those %'s are determined. The one thing that was clear to me throughout my buying process was that the Reading Centre had absolutely no better visibility than anyone else of the pipeline nor any influence over numbers of, (and allocation of), vehicles even though they operate out of the same building as Porsche GB. So the Germans are making some interesting decisions.

It might be excellent, but the tax treatment of EV’s for business users and consultants operating as a Ltd company has shifted half of these cars if not more.
