When booking Eurotunnel now I pretend that I have a bicycle on the roof so that we get into the extra height carriage. Don’t tell anyone though or they’ll all do it.Guy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 3:13 pmThanks Nick - useful to know. It was that difference between front and back width that worried me most, as the rear width seems to be almost exaggerated when you view down the flank of the car. The Macan was always a bit of a squeeze in car parks (and Eurotunnel if you didn't book the extra height carriage) so I suppose I'd get used to it!Nuclear Nick wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 1:38 pm You have to be careful when squeezing through the narrow gap between a parked concrete mixer and the kerb, even when being directed through by a construction worker………lt’s easy to forget that even though the front wheels get through, the rears might not!

Booked my Macan Turbo on Eurotunnel earlier this year and the booking system automatically allocated me a space on the extra height carriage, presumably as the track width is stored in their database. However, when arriving at the waiting area the person in the booth didn’t check my booking correctly and sent me down the normal double decker carriage route. Initially didn’t notice as I was one of the first to arrive. I tried to explain politely to the first direction staff member after the barrier that my car’s wheel track would not fit in the standard carriage and that I should be turning right not left, but was forced to drive down the incorrect loading ramp. Luckily when I got to the train the staff there listened and I was directed to drive all the way down the platform to the extended height carriages. So although the option should be available it’s worth making sure you’re in the correct pre-loading waiting lanes with the vans and the coaches.
Now - Macan Turbo (MY20), Mamba Green/High Gloss Black
Cancelled due to COVID redundancy - Macan S, Silver

So after triggering all that thread drift, here's an on-topic question for Simon ...
Are you finding that other drivers/road users treat you differently in a jet black rather than racing yellow 911? (until they spot the understated rear wing, that is!)

Thanks for bringing things back on track, Guy!
If anything, I think the Jet Black car attracts more attention, either because some folks clock that it’s a GT3, or because they do indeed spot the big rear wing!
A few more people wanting to ‘race’ but that’s much more likely to be an EV rather than another sports car.
