The driver of any vehicle travelling further than 100 meters with their left lane empty (in a country where the left lane is slower) should have a finger broken.
Cars going slower than 56mph in any lane should be crushed.

Well, that could be a problem on the ‘brand new’ M27 Smart motorway, that only reopened a month ago, after nearly 3 years of road works, as they’ve set the MAXIMUM speed limit to 60 mph!!??

As most of it was on the M1 and M6 he drove at 56 mph as that is supposedly the most economical.
He was a nervous wreck by the time he got off the M6 with HGV’s coming right onto his tail before moving to overtake or just honking at him for going so slowly, many cut him up.
He got over 40mpg out of his 2 litre Mondeo.
For some reason he never tried it again.
Clearly he’s an idiot!!
I did have a nervous trip in my Volvo C70 once, having fitted a space saver spare wheel after suffering a puncture. Doing only 60 (I think) as advised on the space saver, made motorway driving to my destination a very anxious journey!

When I had the unrepairable flat and had to drive from the Lake District back home with the space saver with its 55 mph or so limit I avoided the motorway.Wing Commander wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 11:55 amCol Lamb wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 10:00 pm A work colleague decided that after being away on business for a few days that he would fill the tank up to the brim and set off to drive the 250 miles back home as economically as possible.

A Fiat 500 driver had a field day blowing off my trundling Macan Turbo on the A6.

Another reason NOT to specify a space saver.Wing Commander wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 11:55 amCol Lamb wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 10:00 pm A work colleague decided that after being away on business for a few days that he would fill the tank up to the brim and set off to drive the 250 miles back home as economically as possible.

Also, if you have more than 10 cars behind you and a clear road in front, you should pull over and let the faster cars pass

Just for clarity, there isn’t an ‘overtaking’ lane, or even a ‘fast’ lane. Motorway lanes are numbered 1, 2, 3, etc. HGVs are restricted to lanes 1 and 2.

Perhaps they should go back to the old naming and whilst they're at it they can call lane 2 an 'overtaking' lane too so that lane 2 hoggers get the message too.Nuclear Nick wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 7:49 pmJust for clarity, there isn’t an ‘overtaking’ lane, or even a ‘fast’ lane. HGV's are supposed to be limited to 56mph, but I found it's not quite that accurate, when we hired a gutless motorhome for a trip to Scotland. Got burnt off up a couple of long motorway hills by 40 footers and I had the pedal mashed into the carpet!
