I considered the front axle lift system as I have some fairly sharp gradient changes in the lane near my house. That was also the reason I opted for 10mm less drop in the suspension height as it's a GTS. Having tried a couple of demonstrators I decided I didn't need the lift system with its added weight and complexity, as well as the cost. And regarding your stream, you'd need the water level to be over the wheels for it to get into the induction air intakes!

You say you want to keep the spec light and that you plan some touring but most of your big ticket items are exterior rather than for comfort. And for me, Bose is wasted on a 911 as the road and engine noise is fairly intrusive, admittedly more so with the GTS, and the base sound system is pretty good. So I spent more on seats for example, which I think is the most important consideration in any car. I have long legs and the extra support under the thighs from the extended squab makes quite a difference on long distance trips.

One of the demonstrators had a sun roof and my wife decided she wanted one. I've never been a fan of them but had to give in on that one!

All the 911s are fabulous cars though and you will no doubt be thrilled with yours. Good luck with tweaking the spec.

I’d be seriously tempted with that romans one to be honest to save the wait and a few quid - it’s pretty much the spec you want and more

That Romans one is really nice, like the wheel colour as well against that body colour. They have a great reputation as well, although they're normally priced at the top of bracket.

Some context… for the last 20 years I have been buying cars, selecting one, as if it was my last one. That is except for my current 718 Boxster, which I took off the floor, while waiting for my terminal vehicle 😜

So, my current view on a terminal car for me is a Porsche 911 Carrera S. Why?
1. 911 - it’s the best GT car for my purpose - daily commute and regular travels across the moat to Europe
2. S - when I spec 911 to my req’s, it naturally brings me to the next model-up
3. Iconic design that stood the test of time for decades, one of these days will be obsolete
4. If I, or the plant, goes legs-up, there is no other car I would want to be in with my wife and my hounds 😜

So, what do you think of my spec?

Looks very classy! :)

I won’t be ordering a new 911, but if I was, I honestly think I’d go for a ‘humble’ Carrera with few options:

PN9D4LU1

Having ‘pimped’ my Carrera T, I’m not sure I’d modify a car again, or maybe not to the same extent.

The ‘base’ Carrera has 385 PS, which is honestly more than enough for UK roads. And I honestly think that ‘less is more’ although I have added nice wheels, and sports exhaust to the above spec. ;)

And it comes out £17,500 cheaper than yours! :P

But seriously, there is no right or wrong spec. Enjoy the experience! :D

Good call Nick, I will take a demo home and see how it gets through. If Cayman GTS clears it, Carrera S should as well.

Re the specs, I focused on what comforts (int & ext) I would expect from £100k vehicle.
I will check the seats, as it is an equally important part for me. I like extra light through the roof, but I don’t open it, so it is a bit of a waste of resources.

Best headlight that are available are non-neg, wheels and sport exhaust ditto. Bose in my opinion should be standard. My hearing is not what it used to, but if I use Boxster speakers as a reference point, standard stereo is sub-optimal.

Thanks for your insights.

I really like the Romans. Vehicle, but for that money I can wait few months and get new. However, thanks for the ref, good to see they hold value, although it might change over time.

I've had pano roofs on my cars since 2005 and barely opened them but love the extra light that they bring in

Having said that - the 911 is the one I've probably opened the most because the noise going down through the gears with the PSE is quite something !

The Romans car is indeed nice but at 2.5 years? already would prefer to wait for new. Either way you’ll take a bath on resale within the first 3 years whichever you choose. Retail price and trade in always a big disparity with most Porsche models, as long as it’s no issue, no problem. Still better than some other brands.

That is a very interesting perspective Simon. I am not that excited about additional horse-power, as you noted 385PS is plenty (and my Boxster has 300PS, so it is an improvement), so I configured three vehicles (all in green, with LED and RS Spyder 😎):

1. Carrera - PNVFZBM0 which is about £96k
2. Carrera S - PNL6UP37, which is about £108k
3 Carrera GTS - PN7WS891 , which is about £115k

I am not chasing after the HPs, or S or GTS badge, so I need to think it through, a base model might be a viable option.

Thanks again for a good challenge and first hand experience.
