Hi chaps

Just after your thoughts on the GAP insurance and providers. I know the forum is sponsored by ALA Insurance and was wondering to use these or another provider, if you know of any?

Also what is the best policy? Vehicle replacement Plus or Return to invoice? Thoughts please?

Porsche have offered me the below:

£549.00 Gap 3 year Policy
£230.00 Tyre policy 3 year Policy (300.00 per tyre)
£434.00 Cosmetic and Alloy 3 year Policy

Thanks

I was shopping for GAP recently on the arrival of my Cayenne. For my Macan I had used ALA as they seemed best value and came with a good reputation.

This year I found a decent 4 year quote somewhere but it was limited to £1500 of options. ALA quoted £484 (£552 with instalments for a 4 year policy). Porsche quoted £475 for a 3 year policy. So although I could have got an extra year through ALA, or a cheaper 3 year policy, I went for the Porsche one which is a Return to Invoice product.

I don't think you can go wrong with ALA or Porsche. However I'm yet to find anyone who has claimed under one of these policies so how stress-free it is when the time comes to make a claim I have no idea.

I was quite keen on tyre insurance but that seems hard to come by. £230 for a 3 year policy looks pretty good to me. Just one tyre claim pays for that and you'll have to be lucky not to have one at some point unless your car never leaves the garage.

I self-insure. Yes, there's a risk without GAP insurance, but in more years than I care to admit I've only ever had one car stolen and one car written off, so I'm happy to take the risk. My Macan is 4 years old, and I've had once simple puncture which was cheap to repair. I've also had one alloy wheel damaged, which cost £90 to repair and repaint. I wouldn't have got my money's worth from tyre or alloy insurance. Bear in mind these insurance products are all big earners for the SE (and the dealership) which is why they try so hard to sell them.

I went for ALA 4yr GAP insurance only. Found the Porsche quotes not value. Remember to use the 25% discount code for ALA insurance using MSE25.

Not sure if it was the ALA one but one policy I read limited it to £1500 of options. Given the average Porsche owner adds 10k-20k of options it’s worth checking that bit of small print.

Thanks Paul - I read that as £1500 of "additional" dealer options added, not what options are available when you build and order the car? I could have this wrong though.

Anyone have thoughts on which particular product to buy? Vehicle replacement plus or Back to Invoice plus from ALA?

Right now if a Gen3 car was stolen, back to invoice would see you losing out by about £10k if the current OPC used prices are anything to go by… 😂

That's why I went for replacement car GAP insurance. Wouldn't bet against another price increases in the next few years with what's happening in the world.
