Porsche has been spotted testing a prototype version of the upcoming Porsche 'Cajun' wearing an Audi Q5 body. The new small-to-medium Porsche SUV will be built on Audi's 'modular longitudinal matrix' platform.

About this time last year, Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn announced each of its three main brands (Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen) would be given the task to build a separate platform which would then be used throughout the company umbrella.

Under this new system, Audi was designated the medium-sized platform, Volkswagen the smaller one, and Porsche the sports car. The platform in this case will also underpin various new medium-sized sedans and wagons, such as the Audi A4 and A6.

Porsche is still in early development stages with the body styling of the Cajun (an unofficial name, short for 'Cayenne junior') . It's understood the Porsche Cajun will get various mechanical and cosmetic revisions over the Audi Q5.

There will be a wider track front and rear, evident by the makeshift flares on this test vehicle, as well as a tuned chassis and suspension for improved handling and a bigger braking package.

Inside and out, the Cajun will get Porsche-specific details, such as a separate interior layout and various body styling revisions which will include new panels and alloy wheels.

Power is set to come from a range of Audi-derived units, which will be revised by Porsche to increase overall performance. Engines are expected to range from a 2.0-litre TFSI turbocharged four-cylinder, to a 3.0-litre TFSI V6 unit. A hybrid package is also said to be in the pipeline, based on the 2.0-litre TFSI, adding a 33kW electric motor.

The new vehicle is expected to launch sometime in 2014, with the possibility of a two-door version joining the line-up afterwards.
