Since 2019 the 911 is the only version of the VW Beetle still in production. It is VW’s identity and has to continue.

Regarding the Macan, Porsche sales will drop substantially if they cannot offer a medium sized SUV. EVs are not catching on and the Cayenne is simply too big for most people.

Hmmm, not sure I agree. Porsche sold 50,146 911s last year out of a total 320,221 sales. Cayenne (87,553 sales) and Macan (87,355 sales) made up the majority of sales. Engineering lead company and I love that but still in the business of making money. They could simply add £15k to every 911 and most customers would just swallow that? Maybe, maybe not.

I’m hoping for them the ev Macan does well - it’s a different proposition to the Taycan after all. Others have said Porsche is an suv company that just happens to make superb sports cars.

I read that Fiat is reverse engineering the new ev 500 to be a phev. Who knows maybe Porsche will do the same with the Macan. I wouldn’t bet on it though

Of course their SUV sales far outnumber their sports cars in terms of sales and profit (I assume), but the company appears to have an ethos of “we exist to make cutting edge sports cars” and the other ranges provide the capital investment required to do just that??
I suspect culturally, to many in the boardroom, 911 IS Porsche!

I do not doubt that the Cayenne and Macan have saved Porsche and given them the funds to continue development such that it is in the 911.

Yep, Sports Car oriented Management but I some how I still see the 911 as a second tier desirable car.

Ferrari and Lambo have vastly more desirability than any 911.

If Porsche Management had the vision then the Taycan could have been vastly better, rather than an EV version of the Panamera that to my mind it is.

Just look at the butt ugly cars that Porsche produced in the terrible 924 which was held together by tape and made up only of spare bin parts, the 928 which looked like a Monday morning fag packet design after a hard weekend of a bender. Then there was the mark one Cayenne which is only surpassed by the last Ford Granada and the Ford Pino as the most ugly cars on the road.

Porsche Management really need to up their game or to be replaced en-masse.

I’m not sure many folks are cross shopping a 911 with a Ferrari or Lambo, they are in different market segments. Desirability is somewhat dependent on what one desires - if it’s an everyday useable sports car then 911 obviously comes ahead of the Italian duo.

We have plenty on here who use their 911’s as daily’s and at least one erstwhile T owner who shows us that even the pinnacle version GT3 can be used as an only car daily quite comfortably (or nearly comfortably 😂)
I’ve never owned a Ferrari as even the cheapest is beyond the top 911 prices, but perhaps one or two on here who have/do own one could shed some light on how they perform as 10k mile per year daily, and whether they even could be??

I didn’t aspire to own Porsche - I just bought one as they are one of the best engineered cars available

The only super car I probably fancy is a Lambo but I feel if I got one I would barely use it

The cayenne and Macan helped Porsche develop the 911 in to an even better and useable car for more people to enjoy, and without those with limited skills ending up in a hedge backwards through having more money than sense - which is a high percentage of Porsche drivers.

On the 928 being ugly are we actually saying that on a Macan forum ??? The Macan is a very long way off being an oil painting but maybe the rose tinted glasses help many on here think it is a good looking car !

I honestly think that both the 928 and the Macan look pretty good. :)

The 928 is an iconic grand tourer (GT) that was way ahead of its time when it won European Car of the Year in 1978.

I think the Macan is a good looking mid-size SUV, especially in the original Gen I guise. 8-)

Never going to happen especially with so many 911 aka Beetle lovers in the forum,

You need to visit Specsavers if you think a 928 is a good looking motor.

Just look at WingCo’s postage image of the fat assed 928, only the mark 1 Cayenne is even worst looking.

Look at what EV SUV’s are now available and the Macan and Cayenne have Supermodel looks compared to them.

There is only one manufacturer producing great looking cars and that is Aston Martin, the DBX looks fabulous.
