We had the opposite experience when buying our Clio last year. I agreed to buy it following the launch of the new model on August. No discount as a new model and needing a factory order.

Late Sept and Carwow were able to offer deals, but not via our local dealer. Spoke with the Sakes Manager and he agreed to a revised lower price within a couple of hundred £ of the lowest Carwow offer.

Late Oct and still no new car delivery date. So suggested we sell our current car (it was coming up to 5yrs old). He agreed to loan us a new demonstrator until our new one was delivered. So that saved us a service and MOT. We sold our Leon for the top price offer, to Cazoo.

We had that demonstrator for 6 weeks - free use, apart from the petrol, and did 750 miles in it. So saved 2 x months road tax. Overall it more than made up for the difference in tge new car price.

Really well done Platinum Renault, Trowbridge.

Bazza - hope you still bought a Clio? Ours has been superb. The 1.6 cc auto hybrid has returned 60.1 mpg over the first 9 x months. Great nimble handling, nippy and comfortable. Totally reliable, no squeaks / rattles and everything just works. Very comprehensively equipped too, as standard, with the Esprit Apine E-Tech model.
Yes, we went ahead and placed an order with another dealer. Would have preferred to keep it local, but not after that experience.
The Clio should arrive next week, same version as yours, Esprit Alpine.

Glad to hear you are pleased with yours.
I wanted to go for the auto version, but my wife has never driven auto and wanted to remain manual, so we agreed to differ, and she won the argument!!

It works out cheaper, and considering it won't do more than 2-3K per year, it was probably a wise decision.
The manual is good. We prefer the auto with its extra power and instant speed of the bigger engined full Hybrid.

Hope that you enjoy your new pocket rocket!
Cheers, Steve.

I had appalling service at Leeds OPC. Didn’t return calls, answer emails, and seemed clueless over fitting the towbar. Eventually got to the end of my tether and complained to Porsche GB and hey presto my e mails replied to and service manager called me. Awful base Audi Q series loan car while in for timing cover bolts under warranty. Also it appears this has resurfaced and under investigation by another OPC. But having worked in and for a large group the level of service is no surprise from a JCT600 franchise. I worked in stratstone and customer service is way below wringing every last penny out of a customer in the priority list. I genuinely found it embarrassing the way customers were treated and left as soon as possible. I’ve moved my custom to South Lakes OPC. Significantly further away but can be combined with a day trip to the Lake District. What a contrast. Polite and helpful throughout the dealership and I really cannot praise them enough. We had a problem with towbar not retracting while on a break in lakes and I spoke to service manager who helped me sort the issue then called me next day to check it was all ok. As and when it’s time to change my current Macan they will be my first port of call. Ok they don’t have group stock to access but they assure us they will if need be buy a car in for us and sell at a price competitive with other opcs.

Nothing but praise for Lakeland, bought two Macans from them. They are a family owned OPC not a large franchise.

Funny you should mention Stratstone, I bought a Jag 21 years ago and then the dealership changed to Fox and then to Stratstone, the customer service nosedived with each change and the Sales side did not so much nosedive as plummeted in a hyperbolic manner. I took an F Pace out when it was first released and everytime I have been in the dealership I have been totally ignored. Sort of glad the place caught fire.

Only moved servicing to Bowkers in Preston as they are on my doorstep.

Stratstone are awful. I am staggered that so many marques allow them to hold their franchises. I’m all for people making a fair profit but treating customers with respect and fairly makes so much difference. It completely put me off the motor trade though I did learn a few tricks when it comes to buying cars.
When we were looking to swap the bmw we went to a Stratstone bmw and got ignored completely by sales staff. Went the following week In the Macan and they couldn’t get to us fast enough. A point I made to the sales manager before walking out.

to put a holding point in place here; my issue is with Hatfield. Half of the problem has been resolved (so that's something, eventually!) the other half I'm not in a hurry but the lack of communication is.... disappointing. Will be out of the country for a while so curious to see if everything is resolved on my return.

Been buying from Dick Lovett dealerships for over 30 years. Not had any cause for complaint yet and still using them for three of their brands. The Porsche one is excellent, although they didn’t have my favourite “Chocolate Orange Club” biscuit last time I had occasion to visit 🙄
