Hi Guys,

A quick bit of help / advise please, with regards to the Navigation maps that my car is running, a 2019 Macan S with PCM 5.

I have recently acquired a November 2019 Macan and the maps in the navigation system date back to 2019, except for South East England, which date back to 2020! The midlands maps, where I am based, again date back to 2019!

I thought that subscribing to Porsche connect navigation and infotainment would give me updated maps, but apparently not – I know that it gives me other things as well, such as send route to car and other stuff, but I was primarily hoping to get at least some updated maps for the U.K.

From speaking with Porsche Connect they say that if the car has maps dated 2019 then that will be the latest that their third-party mapping data provider gives them, as if an updated map was available then it would have been pushed / sent to the car!

I queried this, saying that it mans that the car’s nav is at least 4 years out of date for maps then and they said yes, as that is what the data provider sends to Porsche and it is not updated every year. They did say an update might be coming out this year!

I have spoken to some independent map suppliers and they quote £200 for 2024 maps for my car, so that means that updated maps are available from somewhere, whether that is Porsche’s official supplier or not I do not know of course.

I appreciate that I can use Apple Maps / Sygic via Carplay, but I would like the inbuilt Nav maps more up to date than 2019 as I very often go out without my phone!

Please find detailed my current navigation database version – can someone with a 2019 or later car maybe take a minute or 2 when you have time to see what version you are running?

Many Thanks
Andrew

Hi Andy, the navigation in my Macan performed an automatic update as I was driving this morning. While this is in progress you see a % completed counter in red next to the LTE symbol on the Nav screen.

This latest one shows 2024.1 version....

Only the England Central and Wales section states 2024, but the other two still show as 2019.3 .....

Great, Thanks for taking the time to do that, it is much appreciated.

At least I now know that there is most definitely an updated map for the Midlands region - Maybe as it is now past the first quarter updates are being sent out?

I will just be patient I guess :)

Thanks Again

I have a 2019 S and have remained subscribed to the Porsche Connect map services since the car was bought new.

I regular used to receive over the air map updates until Summer 2022. I lost live traffic info for about 6 weeks; Porsche Germany had an issue. However, since live traffic service was restored every time the car has downloaded a map update, after the download, installation has failed, and an error been reported. my last "local map is shown as 2022 ver 1 from memory

My car went into the local OPC for two software updates last month one of which related to the PCM. I told the service receptionist about the map update issue, and she said let's wait to see whether the PCM update solves it. It has not a map date failed again last week. Next time the car is in service I will be asking the OPC to investigate

I cannot say whether your issues is related to the above or not. Has the car always had an up-to-date Porsche Connect subscription in place

Thanks for the reply pmg - I only got the car last week, so as far as I know, it had the first 2 years of Porsche connect subscription, whilst it was free and it then it lapsed until I subscribed to the navigation and Infotainment package last week.

Maybe you have a point with regards to the PCM software version - my car was brought from an OPC but I doubt that their 111 point check actually checks / carries out PCM software updates, but they did say a couple of campaigns had been done (one for the Bose and one for the instrument cluster)!?

Porsche obviously do it differently to my old BMW as it seems that the U.K. is broken into regions on the Porsche and your only get the update for the regions that you are currently in, as opposed to the BMW where I got the full updated Western maps maps on a USB stick!? This approach sort of makes sense when the data is coming down via the mobile network I guess.
There are numerous places to get the map updates for BMW for free, but it seems that there are not any for the Porsche, or none that I could find, but they must use the same basic mapping data as Audi (do they call that MIB if I remember correctly), I would think?

I guess that for now I will just use out of date maps, when using PCM nav and I am without my phone, but I must say that the send route to the car from the PC does work ok, which is useful.

Anyway I am not sure why I find this sort of stuff interesting (as well as frustrating at times), but I do :)

Thanks Again for your replies.

Just to be clear. I live in the South West, so for everyday driving it has not given me an update 😒

@SAC1 ah I assumed that you were Midlands based :)

How odd that you go that region update then, unless you were driving in that area at the time I guess!

It seems to get more intriguing :) (or not)

Not sure if this would be of any use to you? Google suggested it.
