Insuring the new Land Rover was a concern as I keep hearing how many Range Rovers are very expensive/uninsurable so wondered if Defenders might be similar.

As it's only a few weeks from renewal, whilst changing over the vehicle on my policy, Admiral was showing me my renewal price. The Macan was going to go from £600 up to £2,300. Thankfully the Defender will be just under £800.

It seems Admiral have suddenly decided they don't like Macans?
Insurance seems to be a somewhat illogical and unpredictable industry!

I’m with Admiral for my 911 and my premium went DOWN by 19% or so compared to last year. No other company came remotely close to the Admiral premium. 🤷‍♂️

I’ve got an Admiral multi car policy covering 4 vehicles. 3 stayed roughly the same but the Macan went from just under £600 to £1,300. Given all factors remained constant - address, NCB, no convictions etc the actuary tables are obviously now stacking against Macans (are they now more easily nickable?) or at least the category of vehicle.

I used to always be with Direct Line and then a few years ago they stopped even offering me a quote. I tried again this time and it ended with a big X and "We are unable to offer you a quote this time".

No idea why. No convictions, no accidents, 47yr old, married no kids, home owner, safe area, don't use car for commuting, only around 7000 miles a year... can't think what they don't like. I'm self employed but if that's a reason not to quote, they wouldn't have many customers at all.

I’ve just taken ownership of my Turbo and have insured it with Admiral.
There’s some benefit to it being a new policy I suspect, and whilst the price quoted wasn’t that much lower than others, it was in line with my expectations/budget.

Interesting reading, unbelievable that a penalty given for the car standing for two weeks while the owner was on holiday!

I’ve put a holding deposit down on a 2023 GTS ( still to conclude the deal ). I know there are a lot of variables involved in car insurance, I will be £360 through General Accident.
