Time to hit the "quoteme" cartel.
Renewed with Churchill for £453 through go.compare.

The thing that pi$$es me off is that Esure were the 2nd best quote at £470. I just couldn't be ar$ed to get on the blower and ask why their online quote was so much cheaper than the renewal price and would they match it - I'm certain they would have.

Unfortunately computerisation has stopped the human common sense element where someone at Esure would have looked at the 60% renewal increase and reprocessed it. Their loss.

Perhaps as a result of the 'new customer' discounts they tend to chuck out in the industry; paid for by the existing customers who just blindly renew on DD or without looking round first. It's a regular annual 'treat' for me to go to my house insurer's website, enter my details and get a 'new' quote far cheaper than the renewal premium they've already offered me! I just cancel/let the renewal one expire - I opted not to give them card details for auto-renew - after taking out the new one. Ridiculous really.

Wasn’t the whole ‘new customer discount’ supposed to be illegal now? :?
