Hopefully someone can give me sound advice please.

I own a 2015 Macan SD with 69k miles, the car has always been under warranty and serviced at Porsche. Since Feb 22 I have been experiencing a creaking noise when accelerating, braking and making manoeuvres like entering a driveway for example; that sound similar to that of an old creaking boat. The car has been into OPC Leicester several times since it first started for other things, but they could not say what it was and that everything looked fine underneath.

In July 22, I had an MOT and a transmission oil leak was picked up and I had the vehicle recovered via Porsche Assistance. OPC Leicester chalked the gearbox up, gave me it back and said do 1,000 miles before bringing it back in. 1,000 miles later, I returned the car and was told a new gearbox was required and it would be covered under the extended warranty.

In November 22, the gearbox was fitted and car returned to me. On every occasion they had the car, I asked them to please look into the sound that I was experiencing, but all I got was ‘everything looks fine so to look into it further, you will have to pay’.

Fed up with the sound, one day in March 23 I decided to put the car over an inspection pit in a relatives garage and take a look myself and I think I identified what the sound was quite quickly; a worn bush on the lower suspension arm front passenger side - when moving it, it made the same sound.

However, the first thing I noticed was the front passenger side CV boot was split and grease had leaked everywhere. I called Porsche assistance who came out (the AA) and his opinion was that it was unusual for the CV boot to perish at this age / mileage and had in fact split and was most probably caused when the gearbox was replaced. He also confirmed a worn bush on the suspension arm. I subsequently booked it into OPC for inspection.

This week (April 23) the car has been at Porsche Leicester for a full service and to look into said problems and they are telling me that both drive shafts need replacing (they only replace in pairs) and they suspect that is the cause of the noise and it is not covered under warranty and will cost me £2100. They are not even addressing the suspension arm even though I have told them what I have discovered and the AA put it in his report. Does anyone know wether that would be an extended warranty item ? I cannot see it in the exclusion list - closest thing is ‘ shock absorber’. Apparently, this list is not exhaustive and not cut n dry…..

Nevertheless, I have told them that I would like to escalate it and they have reduced the cost to £1700 as a goodwill gesture, but what I want to know is…. why is this not covered under warranty? and as I have been reporting it for the last 12 months. I questioned how the opposite CV boot can be in perfect condition, but all I get is waffle like they “they cannot guarantee the quality of the boots when they are made and one might be better than another! to which i responded that then surely it is a question of manufacturing defect and therefore covered under warranty? but they just manage to wriggle out of it. I now have the car back.

Apologies for the long story, but hopefully there are others who have been in the same boat and can offer advice. Im trying to contact Porsche customer services but the lines are down ‘due to a technical fault’ 🙄

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards

Steve

I've had suspension work done on my car under extended Porsche warranty. I can't confirm what as there is no paperwork to show what has been done.

I've also had a warranty claim for seized PASM sensors on the rear. Was told this wasn't a warranty item bit asked them ever so nicely to double check and Porsche Edinburgh said they would cover it under warranty.

Therefore I imagine warranty cover is not black and white and you may wish to do as I did and ask them to double check? Might also want to try another Porsche dealer if you can?

Good luck......

Mercedes Benz paid 50% of the cost of replacing my big end bearing “as this just shouldn’t fail “. That was at 90,000 miles. Warranty Direct picked up the test.

That’s how “luxury” brands should treat their customers.

Had a friend with a 2 year old Lexus RX. White worm on one wheel. Lexus insisted on replacing all 4.

I hope I haven’t just bought a VW with a fancy badge.

Thank you for all of the responses so far. I did write a very long winded letter to Porsche customer services yesterday, similar to what I've posted here and the managing director. I didn't hold my breath and have since taken the car to a local Porsche specialist (GCR Central Ltd.) who are incredibly genuine and literally booked the car in for next Tuesday to put it right (CV boot and lower suspension arm) and were not convinced drive shaft needed replacing, unless damage has been caused due to a lot of grease leaking out. BUT..... Porsche Customer services have literally just called me and are trying to put things right following my email (which I did not expect at all), so they will be contacting OPC Leicester. Dillema though as I won't hear back until Tuesday now which is when the car is booked in at GCR. I agree about the exhaustive list; suspension arm should be covered, same as drive shaft. I think they were trying to say CV boots aren't covered and subsequently damage to the drive shaft has occurred so its my fault... I think thats boloney. If I needed 4 new tyres, discs and pads, I wouldn't dream of asking them to pay for it! One of the guys at GCR said the boots aren't made of rubber like they used to be, instead they are plastic nowadays.

I'll keep you updated as to whether complaining made any difference. Thanks again everyone :)

@sj_smith, It may be worth just postponing the booking until you hear what Porsche are proposing. If you have the Indy working on it you could give Porsche Leicester (think it’s Sytners?) an out. Just a thought..
