Hi All,

I know this topic has been discussed thoroughly but I’m looking for some advice. I picked up my 2022 Gen 3 Macan GTS the 2nd week in March and unfortunately is suffering from the famous bonnet flaring! And as other members reported its worse on drivers side, slightly flared when cold but worse when warmed up, basically I’ve approach my OPC and they are happy enough to get rectified but by doing so its requires to visit the body shop. They have advised it will most probably need the wings loosened off and adjusted along with the bonnet. The tops of the inside wings along with bolts etc will require painting after adjustment and that’s the issue I am not happy about having a brand new car painted. Are there any members that have had their bonnet adjusted to sort out the flaring issue without the need of paint? If so can you advise on the process?

Thanks in advance.

I know what you mean about getting a brand new car painted, I wouldn't be keen, but if work is carried out at OPC it should end up "as new".

Hi ScotMac,
Thanks for your reply, besides having a new car painted part of my concern is that I don’t know if i have confidence in having the work done, OPC would out source to there Porsche approved body shop, if the work is shoddy its hard to rectify!

I cannot believe Porsche haven’t rectified this problem yet. Very worrying that cars are still coming through with this issue. They shouldn’t even be leaving the factory.

Its probably about time that those who have identified an issue with their own vehicles write a letter direct to Porsche AG (forget GB) and simply state their disappointment with what appears to be a product fault and/or quality control.

Given your car is grey I wouldnt worry too much about the painting, certainly from the colour matching side. IF it were carmine, carrara or dolomite I'd be asking more questions about exactly how much was being painted.

All depends how much the misalignment bothers you, clearly enough to raise it but could you live with it?

The modern computer controlled systems that mix the paint from its code are nowt short of miraculous, even when in the back of a VW van. Certainly taken all the human skill out of it but at the same time taken all the human error out too.

Red cars suffer metamerism , what’s good in daylight isn’t necessarily right under sodium street lights.

You can mix metallics accurately but getting the flake to lie Corte fly is another matter.

Yes I’m fussy but then I’ve worked in auto supply chain for 30+ years and am very critical of panel and paint quality.
