As the government are seemingly a fan of ‘buy now, pay later’ maybe they’ll offer attractive terms to finance our Porsches! ;)

The ridiculous price might be easier to accept if the roads were maintained in a reasonable condition

ScotMac,
Maybe Porsche Engineers should develop and offer a pot hole detection and avoidance device! That said condition of roads here in Scotland wouldnt get out the end of my street before car came to a halt. Or just drive with off road function on all the time.

It is probably my main task when driving as I really hate hitting potholes. Even some of the main trunk roads and motorways are a shambles :(

Sorry to be a pedant but it’s vehicle tax and has nothing to do with funding roads. Roads are funded by central taxation and council tax.
It’s a vehicle tax based on emissions and value.

It’s been many years since we had a specialist tax - it all goes into one pot either centrally or locally. Remember when NI was to fund the NHS and was ring fenced?

It’s also a tiny proportion of tax take (less than 1%) and one of the few you have a choice about how much you pay. Get an electric car under £40k and don’t pay any.
