I wonder if this thread will age as well as the one discussing whether or not Tesla would go bankrupt just a couple of years ago. I'm soooo glad I didn't follow the stock market "advice" on that one, lol.
Anyone who still thinks EVs are not going to play a major part in the future of personal transport needs to take the blinkers off and look around them. Even right here on this most conservative of gentlemens' forums there are now plenty of EV curious people starting to dip their toe in the water. Give it another handful of years and many of you will be driving around in next gen EVs and wondering what all the fuss was about.
I'll bookmark it for later.

Totally agree, it’s the future but a number of issues need ironed out to say the least - which are glaringly obvious, I am as techie as they come (bit of an IT background) but for the average joe it is no where near there. For car fanatics such as us - choice/feel/value? We are still some way off.
Before people start shouting taycan, etron, etc. The majority have jumped due to 0% BIK, tax write off, etc.
I must say I enjoyed the IX - modern, cool, plenty of space - but it’s crazy dough for the range you need (50), 105k and climbing…..

Absolutely. I'm shamelessly invested in EV. I have significant investment in Rivian, Lucid, Nio, QS and a few others. They might not all work out, but I can see an obvious exponential growth here. If QS comes up trumps with their solid state batteries then it's happy days here and it's safe to assume that ICE wouldn't survive that kind of battery tech breakthrough. It would go from the current close contest to a complete whitewash in favour of EV power. I don't have any investment in hydrogen at this point, but keeping an eye on it for its potential growth in the commercial transport sector. Can't see it being more desirable than EV for personal transport though. Especially now range is not really the big issue it once was in the early days.
I think my point is that I don’t see this as an “us and them” situation, just simply a choice. Now, we all know that cars will be almost entirely electric in due course, the government have pretty much already mandated that so investment in EV tech isn’t exactly a punt!
Having said that right now there is a choice and my outlay into a Porsche sure isn’t an investment
When EV’s become the only real choice and there are even better versions than today, and infrastructure catches up, then brilliant bring it on.
Meantime I intend to burn a lot of petrol real quickly in a cacophony of noise…

Three things have to happen for EV to take-off and ICE to decline:
1. Vested interests in OIL - $ billions of capex need to be depreciated and the “oil industry needs to transition to alternative energy - that will take decades
2. Power packs (aka batteries) need to be radically improved. Elon Musk recently announced major improvement in the Tesla battery design, Toyota, BMW and Mercedes are working on Solid State Batt. It needs to get momentum like Moore’s Law for batteries
3. Govt incentives - as taxing middle class for not being able to afford fashionable EV will not win them any votes

The reviews on the new Taycan GTS are all very favourable reporting it as a very good car and not just “good for an EV” just simply “good”
Yes they are dear but running costs need to be taken into consideration. Depreciation also likely to be very favourable which is certainly one area where the diesel burners could suffer with the passing of time.

Just imagine if there's a sudden surge in next gen batteries that can charge to 100% in minutes, a BIG leap, I know, however we won't need to grit the roads in winter the electricity cables under them will resemble the bars of an electric fire!
