I've driven a Q5 and a Gen3 Macan and Macan S.

The Q5's steering is definitely over light, and compared to the Macan is about as feelsome as numb feet in the snow. Seriously dreadful. Quite how they get away with it I don't know.
The Macan I drove had PS+ (and felt absolutely brilliant) - the S didn't have PS+ and this, with the added weight of the 2.9 V6 over the front wheels, made it feel a bit on the heavy side at speeds below 30mph.
I've ordered an S with PS+ and hope to try one for piece of mind before locking down.

I frequently drive a Peugeot which has much lighter power steering than my Macan S. When swapping between cars the difference is noticeable for the first few minutes but forgotten soon after. It’s not as if you need to be an Olympic weight lifter to manoeuvre the Macan and I’ve never felt the need for PS+.

I would agree with 18" [like your Macan] or 19", but with the 20" and 21" alloys it definitely helps at parking speeds. The feel is still on the heavy side, but the effort is less at those low speds.
