At 5000 a year and three years ownership (sort of) you will only need the service at year two which should not cost anywhere near £865.

If costs are a factor seek an Indy out and find out the service cost from them, as long as they use Porsche approved filters/oil etc there should not be any warranty issues.

Compared to your F Pace diesel the base Macan, indeed all Macan’s will be far less economical to run, hence with the high cost of fuel do factor this into your calculations. Depending upon the type of driving you will be doing expect 25 to 30 mpg. The last time I drove a base Macan it was a Gen 2 and in the Lake District where I drove it for about 120 miles and the MFD showed 27 mpg but as these read high I probably got a realistic actual of 25 mpg, other members who have base Macans can no doubt give you their figures but if they do knock 10% off the figure their MFD shows to allow for the display error which seems pretty consistent.

BTW
The internal space plus useable boot space will be far less in the Macan. I have driven a couple of F Pace’s with the 3 litre diesel engine and the comfort and ride are very comparable to a Macan, but quality is in a very different league with the Porsche.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I’m not sure how to quote specific ones but I can respond to a few of the general points which have been raised.

In terms of leasing vs buying, I have the funds available to either buy outright or through a mixture of cash and finance, but (personal choice) I would rather have the money in my S&S ISA making money than on my drive depreciating. Plus I know I can just give it back at the end of the 3 year term and not have to worry about resale value, etc (with EV market increasing). Just my opinion.

In terms of build, my price includes privacy glass and reversing camera. I don’t really need much else. It seems a bit crazy when I’m talking about a Porsche, but I am keeping within my budget. Some of you guys’ builds are amazing though, fair play to you all.

In terms of journeys and MPG, I wfh 3 days a week so journeys consist of 1 commute which is about 25 mile round trip (the 2nd commute we use my Mrs car) and a couple of school runs which is about 8 miles round trip. Then anything I do at the wkend. Because of where I live any journey I do starts with about 2-3 miles of quiet A Road where I can get the engine nice and warmed up. So hopefully that will help with the oil, despite relatively short journeys. Currently on 34MPG average in the F-Pace. So if I was looking at 26-28 in the Macan I think I could live with that (currently spending about £30 a month on fuel). Assuming I’m not going to be using premium petrol, normal petrol is slightly cheaper than diesel. Plus I don’t want another diesel if possible.

I think the service plan kind of makes sense if (as per my OP) I factor in 2 new tyres and the 2nd year service, even at the lower end of the price estimate. Then I’ll just have to fork-out for the break fluid and oil change as it comes up. The service plan does definitely cover punctures.

For the record, the deal is £2,000 initial payment and 35 x £570 (£597 with the maintenance which I would set aside as a block of money at the start of the year). So just under £23k all-in.

I think, generally, unless some significant things change in my life, this will probably be the only opportunity I have to get a Porsche. So I guess it’s a case of just jumping in and paying the costs as and when they come.

Mine has just had its 4 year service (albeit a year early) at OPC - oil, filters, health check/ inspection etc, even the screen wash, top up oil and bag and also the brake fluid change and MOT - all for £618.

So the figures you've got for its 2nd year service seem alot.

At 5000 miles per year it will likely need 3 services actually

No I haven’t

At 2 years it needs big service anyway or 20kmiles which he/she won’t do

So oil service at year one
Full service year two
Oil service year 3 unless he/she can ditch it first

But if he thoroughly warms up the engine after each cold start, then oil service will only be triggered by 2-year time limit. On his weekly journey description, it could go either way and i do not think we can be definite either way.

not 12.5 miles is enough in my experience - takes ages to warm the lump up !

Saying that - it was a base 2.0 wasn't it? Maybe quicker. The 2.9S warms up quicker than the 3.0S too
