A lot of the drivers at PEC are retired police, probably in their late 50s/early 60s, and likely don’t fancy spending Christmas in quarantine or a sick bed.

Suppose it’s understandable.
I’m not sure that is entirely true - I’ve had one and that was on the Macan day - probably thought all Macan drivers were old and drove slow !

On all the sports car ones I’ve done it has been somebody similar age or younger than me who are involved in motorsport one way or another. There is a relatively tidy lass there called Kat and a couple of other young ladies too
I asked the Instructor last time at I was at the PEC what driving qualifications he had:-

ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) Trainer with X years training ADI’s.

Race National License - he did not qualify which one.

Plus, test driver for Aston Martin

It must be pretty well paid as another Instructor lived in St Annes which is easily a 4 hour drive and he travelled down and stayed local for the week.
The last time I went my instructor told me (reluctantly) that he won LeMans and was runner-up at the Monaco Grand Prix - suffice to say, it was not easy to impress him with my efforts!
