I'd go spare wheel even if you don't use it
I forgot it in last spec and dealer quoted £1K for it
Thought about this but in reality can't ever imagine myself changing wheels.
If you are in the middle of nowhere and hole in tyre is in sidewall and thus gunk won’t work then you’ll be wanting it, even if you get RAC to put it on for you
The tyres aren’t readily available all of the time - had to wait a while to get my choice of front tyre. Fine if you’ve got other stuff to use. Less so if not

Fair point. Worth getting gunk as well do you think?

But the AA man can and you're on your way, albeit at 50mph. A can of goo may not plug the hole and so your AA man can only give you a lift to the nearest kwikfit.

Be careful with goo. It can turn a minor hole in the tread into an unrepairable mess. With the goo you won't be able to drive at more than 50 anyway until it is professionally plugged. If you have just spent £300 on a new one you don't want to have to replace it 5 mins later.

But if the puncture is gooable then no need for the spare to be fitted?

The goo won't remove the cause of the puncture so you get going but the screw or nail is still working away at the inner wall causing further probably unrepairable damage. I would always use the spare, it will be cheaper in the long run.
