Standard black has the same clearcoat top finish level as any other colour. Looks great when properly detailed and cared for but that’s the rub, hardest colour to keep on top of as it shows any imperfections more readily than any other colour including met black.

I had a standard black Gen2 but it marked up really easily, now have jet black gen 3 and looks great, no complaints. Couldn’t bring myself to go Miami blue or Red and don’t like Crayon, was convinced by early spy shots of a fleet of Black Macans. But each to their own.

Not the case. All finishes have top coat lacquer.

Since about 1988..............
I did say extra layer.

The latter finish is supposedly more durable.

+1. Not sure about the date either but the lacquer top coat came in with the introduction of water based paint.

I went for metallic black as I thought it would be more durable and less likely to show light scratches and swirl marks.

Not really sure about the durable bit but I certainly don't have many scratches or swirl marks. :D :D

I am quite careful when washing.

Black is stunning when clean :D :D :D

I went for black too. Wanted std. but OPC SE’s (yes, plural) convinced me to get the “protection & resale residual of a metallic”. Still not 100% satisfied with this (I contactless wash and dry my cars, enjoy it and do it religiously every w/end) but will stick with metallic unless I need the £674.00 towards a last minute option change (still dithering as car won’t spec lock until next year).

I have gone for the partial bordeaux red. Dash stays black so easier on the eye.

Thanks, that is one of my options. Agree the full “extended” has a bit too much Red.

Should white be under consideration then do view both solid and met white in bright sunshine.

I saw both at Cheshire Oaks more or less side by side and the met white looked far brighter than the duller solid white BUT the met white had a definite blue hue to it.

Went along to Glasgow Porsche late afternoon to see if they had some Macans about.
None in showroom and SE said they had only 1 dem/customer loan which was Carmine.
Half of the cars in the showroom were carmine but that colour looks way different on a 911 or Boxster than the Macan.
There was a Gen2 Macan S in Carmine in the car park. Had a close look at that and couldnt believe the swirls on paint and it was a 21 Reg.

I think the most liveable colour has to be Volcano but I've never felt Volcano gets the best out of the GTS bits.
Down to 5 possibles of Jet black,Crayon,Gentian,Volcano and Carmine.
One of the contributors on here posted pics of his Gentian GTS and it looked great. Only problem is the wife's car is blue.
