Depreciation
Just sold my VW California for more than I paid for it new 3 years ago, but as it wasn't getting used it funded the Porsche. I knew the Macan wasn't an investment, but its 100% more fun than the California and whilst prices were at an all time high ive made the most of it!

New car availability is going to be affected for at least 12 months. OPCs are advising customers not to place new car orders yet, as they cannot be given delivery dates until into 2022.
One final factor is that from May 2022, new cars sold in the UK will have speed limiters and full usage logging fitted. A used car without these is going to be a more valuable proposition.

I think that’s a misnomer- the agreement is all new cars going for type approval (ie the Macan EV) not all new cars already being produced. The target for all new cars on sale is 2024 I believe. So this shouldn’t effect any current ranges.Raven Flyer wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 2:45 pm One final factor is that from May 2022, new cars sold in the UK will have speed limiters and full usage logging fitted. Get your hands on a new Porsche GT car or Speedster/Spyder and that’s likely to appreciate!OmniCognateSnr wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 2:23 pmIf you know what you’re doing some cars are fantastic investments, just not new cars.

Short term, and definitely at the moment. Not sure about long term though. Although things like Zagato Aston Martins ( which are all vile IMHO ) will go up from new. But I was thinking classic cars mainly. If you’d bought an eType or an old Vantage 20 years ago you’ll have made quite a tidy profit on them by now.Wing Commander wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 3:29 pmGet your hands on a new Porsche GT car or Speedster/Spyder and that’s likely to appreciate!OmniCognateSnr wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 2:23 pmIf you know what you’re doing some cars are fantastic investments, just not new cars.

For example, many GT4s still selling for more than they cost new 6 years ago.
Cars like the 911 R, Speedster and GT3 Touring will probably always go for more than what they cost new.
