My Porsche connect lasted 2 years from new and I have just renewed my subscription (£159) for the next year. I'm now considering whether or not to renew Porsche Car Connect (£99) which is only free for the first year.

I didn't renew or miss it! You can probably let it go and then revive it later if you miss it.

I used the car connect (Vodafone) location and status service for the six months I had the SD and it was u/s at locating the Macan. In the Turbo it could not ID its location when I was at the car, turned off the remotes and stuck them in a drawer where they have been ever since. There were or maybe still are three levels of service ( or lack of it) available

Connect was useful of sort for a while but once expired I only subscribed last year and then let that lapse, not missed it.

Even during the first couple of years the online updates were hit and miss.

The only function that I found even remotely useful was real time traffic.

I think you're right regarding Car Connect, it does nothing for me that the car can't also tell me on the PCM. I used to have "Mercedes Me" on my AMG, but that came free of charge and was a much better App, so I don't much fancy giving Vodaphone another £99 for very little return for my money and I'll opt out this time round. I will probably maintain Porsche Connect though !

agree with the period free info here which was what applied to my 2019 s

I actually think the useful bit of Car Connect is the ability to show the location of the car which for most purposes can replace a tracker and only the one with 2014 BMW works more than a mile away
