best I could get was an hour, and that was with some reluctance (initially said 30 mins). Although AFTER I had given them a deposit they seems slightly more happy and let me have one for 2 hrs. I guess they thought I was a tyre-kicker first time around.

Yes, but I guess it depends on demand and availability, the dealership, and to some extent the relationship you may have with them.

good point. I suspect if I were on Porsche no 4 from the same dealer, or had recently purchased a 911 from them they would be a tad more accommodating (not that they haven't been very friendly to-date)

In 2018, when I was first thinking about a Macan, one of the local OPC's suggested I pay the £3000 refundable deposit and that would get me the half-day at Porsche Experience centre which would help me select options. In the end, I did not do that but drove test drove for about an hour two used Macans OPC's had for sale. So test driving a few second hand ones helps you gain a feel for how to option and how much you like the vehicle.

True story this. A mate in the 'Trade' at a Mercedes Dealership had a guy on a 24 hour test drive and it came back with over 600 miles on it. He must have been driving for most of the 24 hours. Left it damaged and dumped outside the reception, chucked the keys on the desk and buggered off. They tried to seek compensation but gave up as it would have cost more in fees than the damage.

In early 2019 me and she went for a brief test drive, 30 mins "round the block" just to try it for size and fit, she's 5' 3" and I'm 6' 2". All was well so without any resistance or difficulty the SE arranged a 24 hour test for us in a well specc'd base model. We probably put 200 miles on it and on return I was ready with my £3k for an S order. Sadly, that's when things started going downhill! Delivery finally occurred on 1 Sept and it must have been July before I test drove an S for 30 mins tops.
